Dvd Format For The Sat Nav

ALL,,

Can anyone tell me what format the DVD is burned onto the disk that goes into the DVD drive, is it iso, nrg, etc.
I need to copy a new backup disk and have the latest updates to burn into the files so it would help me to know the format of the files to burn so it will play in the sat nav DVD.

Thanks.

iso and nrg are 'Optical Disc Image' formats. It is a way of storing not only the data files, but also the all the filesystem, metadata, including boot code, structures, and attributes. All of this information is contained in a single file. These properties make it an attractive alternative to physical media for the distribution of software that requires this additional information as it is simple to retrieve over the internet.

The disc itself is just a standard data disc.

Dual Layer DVD

Not sure exactly what format as I've never taken mine out. Hopefully quite soon though I will.

I think I was going a bit too deep into the original question, I was thinking about whether it was a data disc, bootable data disc or thing of that type

The disc is a Dual Layer DVD burned as a standard DVD-ROM data disc.
I backed up the original disc, and use the copy in the drive, keeping the original safe indoors.

I have "ordered" the latest version from a member here and once I get it I will also make a backup just in case.

You can backup your original SatNav disk if you have a Dual Layer DVD burner.

The recommended format is a good quality DVD+R Dual Layer disk.

Never use sticky labels, even the dedicated round ones as they can peel at the edges under heat and cause no end of damage inside the unit.

.iso and .nrg are single file image formats that Nero can understand and unpack into new DVD's including disk title's etc.

Yep, I've got Nero 7 as well - what stage are you currently at ?

If you have 2 DVD devices (player and burner) then load the original in the player and the DVD+R into the burner, then press "Copy" on the Nero toolbar.

My Nero by default gives a quite high burn rate and I reduce this down to 2.4x for safety.

If you only have one device then Nero will automatically create an image file and will prompt for the DVDR when the image has been created to continue the operation.

I first tried backing up my disc onto a Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layers and it didn't work, the drive refused to take the disc.

I then bought Verbatim DVD-R Dual Layers (these are pretty pricey) and they worked. So I figured that the DVD drives are DVD-R DL's.

All I did was to copy all the files (including directory structure) onto my PC,
and then write them back out to a DL disc using Nero.

I wrote the disc in Mode 1 format, to retain backward compatibility (in case there was a backward compatibility problem).

Disc has been working in my drive for several months without problems.

Maybe your DVD burner will not accept or write to DL DVD+R's ?

My DL DVD+R's are working perfectly both for burning and in the car.

I have had correspondence from someone who has tried both formats and has detected better performance from the +R format when inserted into the car unit, hence my advice to try to go for +R if possible.

Yes the Verbs are quite expensive, mine were £31 for 25 (plus postage)

My burner does support DVD+R DL's because the Nero InfoTool says it does.
I have a Samsung SH-S182M.

The DVD+R DL disc reads just fine in the drive on the PC and my laptop DVD drive, just doesn't work in the Satnav drive.

I just found that the only disc that worked for me were the DVD-R DL's and I couldn't get the DVD+R DL's to work even though it wrote ok on the PC.

Has anyone tried updating individual files on the DVDs? I was wondering if you could share the files that update from 3.22 to 3.23 and create an updated disk, while keeping the VC3 files with the map data.

No reason why that shouldn't work being as the majority of files are identical.

I'd be interested in a set of the changed files if you manage to do this. I'm using 3.22 (original DVD).
