RH Key
LH Button
RH Handbrake
LH Steering wheel
RF Gas.

See - if you had to start with the key your had would not be free to release the brake while you start the car - thus it's not a gimick after all it was just designed for LHD cars.

A Japanese car built in UK should be designed for RHD with LHD as an after thought!!!! We have to put up with the opposite from every other Europen manufacturer, we should have at least one our way.

Well at least the fuel filler is on the correct side.

Then you need to read again. Quite clearly they are needed as otherwise they have a habit of rolling away in to garages, wall, and other parked cars. (PS Has anyone had one roll into another Civic?)

Hmmm, I manage first time.......to press the button I mean. And there is no pushing involved either unless the batterys flat and well the pleasure, it just gives you a buzz.....what more can I say

I loved the big red button on the test drive - and the kids loved it even more.
After 3k miles and starting it twice a day only, it's a pain in the a*se.
As others have said, you get in, turn the key, then have to move across to the button. I have driven other deisels, so waiting for glow plugs I don't need reminding about. As I get in, I hold my hand on the handbrake (it's a good habit as a double check, and means it can be off as soon as the engine starts!) - similar with the clutch.
Mate of mine has an M3 with a similar feature - we both feel it will be "de-engineered" either to keyless use of proximity detectors etc., or go back to a key doing the ignition and start functions.

A bit like the 7 series which had keyless entry and start as long as you had a transponder on you. Isn't this also an optional extra on the Focus ST? I think it is and costs about £600 extra and when I looked at the ST it was something I wanted, just for the gimmick feature.

When the start button became avalible from BMW on other models other than the 7 series it was something considered by myself for my car but decided against as I thought thats just something else electrical to go wrong with the car and it was the same set up as Honda have at the moment.

I like the red button when I have test driven Civic's-yea i know it takes 1 second longer to move your hand from the key to the button-so what it feels good and that's what Civics are about.

Honda could engineer in a safeguard to stop you turning over the engine when in gear but that would cost money which will add to the price. When you get in the car you check that gear lever is in neutral thats basic driving skills that 17 year olds have.
