Cruise Control

Had a bit of an odd occurrence with the cruise control today.

Was travelling down an A road at 50 mph in 5th gear and pressed the SET/DECEL button and nothing happened (yes the cruise control was enabled). Tried a couple of times but it wouldn't engage - changed to 6th and tried again and this time cruise control engaged.

Does cruise control only operate in 6th?

No, it should operate in any gear.

Recall someone posting a similair issue...

Try searching for that... can´t remember if it was a defective switch or something else.

Mines does that sometimes. Did it this morning was in 6th and it wouldn't engage then after several presses and speed dropping it did. Its also happened when i've had it on then had to brake then tried to put it back on and it wouldn't work.

It doesn't happen all the time thats the strange thing. I went a whole weeks driving using cc and had no issues, then it decides to go haywire for no reason several weeks later.

mine does that as well sometimes. When it does I just keep pressing it harder until it engages, usually 3 or 4 times.

Its great for average speed camera areas but tempremental. I had to have a look at the manual to see if I was doing something wrong.

Thanks for all the post guys

I've figured out what was happening

if my left foot just rests (not pressing) the clutch pedal, cruise control will not engage - the reason it always worked in 6th was I moved my left foot to the foot rest so was well off the clutch pedal

this clutch switch is a bit sensative me thinks
Anyway will adjust my driving habits

Glad to hear it is sorted!

Resting your foot on the clutch is a bit of a bad habit as it may cause the clutch to wear out quicker.

Yeah!! didn't realise that was what I was doing

Lesson learnt

by the way, the biting point on the clutch seems to be when the pedal is near the floor so I don't think I was affecting the clutch - stop it, it's sorted - take you foot off the pedal you Numpty

Or you could make a mental note to make sure if it happens again you move your foot right up against the furthest part of the foot rest and that way you can be sure if your foots on the clutch. I'll need to check that one cause you usually put the cc on when you've got into 6th and just changed gear.

Jings Nonumpty you may have solved a problem a few of us have been having for a wee while. I'll have to wait until i'm out in the car again tho to check mines

I usually tap very very lightly on the clutch to disengage the CC when coasting off the motorway or something.

I use the button but usually the cc on and off button not the cancel button. I like the clicking noise from it, I know that cause i've found myself tapping it on and off for no reason, but i'm getting better at hitting cancel especially on long drives

Yesterday I was driving along a road where I could use CC and as you do not really concentrating on the gear situation I had got to 5th and engaged CC - I was feeling lazy and have seen i great increase in economy using it. It was only when I looked down I realised that I was in 5th and not 6th, so in my car you can engaged CC in any gear it seems.

To disengage CC I use a variety of methods from touching the clutch to needing to use the break as some intellectually challenged driver has just pulled out in front of me to using the button. All depends on my mood.

Need to hold the throttle (or accelerate) when press the set button, if you leave up and press it won't engage.

Does cruise control only operate in 6th?
You may have a similar problem that i had on my CTR.
The rocker switch on the steering was faulty. It would only work now and again.
The technician from the dealer hit the steering wheel hard just to the side of the switch and it cut out while driving along. He then hit it again and it came back on again.
Therefore a new switch was fitted and it's fine now.

Also when you select "set", make sure you have not got your foot near the brake or clutch pedal as they are sensitive.

Hope you get it sorted. Also it doesn't work under 28mph

Mine engages fine when not on the throttle at all.
