Computer Trip A and Trip B

When I bought my Civ, I reset both Trip A and B and decided to use B to track my overall mileage and MPG since purchase and A to track mileage & MPG since the last fill up (like many other people I suspect). I've now done around 3000 miles and the difference in MPG between A & B never seems to vary by more than about 0.2 MPG, regardless of my driving style/conditions. Surely, it would be expected that Trip B would only alter by smaller and smaller increments, the more miles that I cover and would not be so closely linked to A? Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Not noticed it personally but I tend to mix up my driving, having slow weeks and faster weeks to see what kind of mpg I can get out. Think I'm up to about 5000 miles on trip B, averaging 57.5 and trip A was around 65mpg for this week. I would have thought you noticed if you had been doing motorway driving and then spent a lot of time driving around town.

Done about 3000 miles on mine. Trip B around 45mpg mark, Trip A at 52mpg

(but only because i just filled up and did a long motorway stint)

I don't even think Trip A goes up to 60mpg on mine!

That is some amazing going.. Even taking it easy best i get over a tank is just shy of 39MPg !!

I do this with my CTR, and the mpg on Trip B (overall mileage) is 28.5 mpg and on trip B is currently 33.2 mpg.

I have seen a significant difference since the weather has got warmer, as you would expect.

I'm starting to drive a bit slower on the drive into work - can't afford to go any faster. Its a good job I enjoy the car so much!

I always figured the MPG averages were weighted - therefore your B trip will tend towards the value of your A unless you've just reset A and you're ragging it/motorway driving? might be wrong...

My Type r reads 30.2 on Trip A and 32.2 on Trip B. but the fuel is going up so quick, Ive started to use my GFs stilo 1.2 6speed(awesome on fuel) for those trips that I would surley use the Vtec engine.

I think i spend more money on fuel than a drug addict does on narcotics

Hi Smarty,

Your on-board computer has got to be on happy pills - even if you are diesel, 65mpg on a 2.2 is a dream we all aspire to.

Same with my car. They are never more than 2 mpg different and I reset A with each fill up.

I've done 8800 miles so far, Trip A is always 43.x and at the moment B is 47.5

Wish I knew what all you guys and dolls are on.....best I've ever had from my 1.8 is about 34 mpg, and that was getting out and pushing.....I do own up to not being the slowest driver in the world.

Remember that you can set up the Trip A counter to automatically reset at refuel.

That is actually another of those small details that make me love this car.

Edit: My best MPG is 54.3, but then I reset it when rolling and did only off highway driving. Usually it is around 42.

I have not reset my trip A for a while. I thought it would reset when it went past 10,000miles but it seems that it still keeps working out the average overall mpg even though the mileometer has started from zero again. In other words it is working out mpg over 10,123 miles with the mileometer showing 123 miles etc.........

I get between anything between 50 to 30 mpg over about 100 miles depending on how I treat it, but over 500 miles it always averages out to about 43mpg, that is just my driving style and the fact that I usualy drive most of time on the same route (motorway and dual carriageway).
Try resetting before a trip on a windy A road and compare it with resetting once you are on a motorway then you will see a huge difference.
