And because they have it you expect that in the civic too? Totally pointless anyway really.

Bmw introduced that feature as when folk were washing their cars they would have the radio/cd player on and to work it you had to have the keys in the ignition and turned to position 1 but this burnt out the transponders in the key, so the immobiliser would not disengage and the car wouldn't start and you needed a new, expensive key.

I'm guessing your wanting music playing whist doing something similar? Oh and without the beeps from the dash when the drivers door is open?

im sure you could make it come on without keys in but would mean getting to back of stereo etc.

In theory you could maybe re-wire it to by-pass the ignition, but there maybe some logic that prevents this.

Now you say that, but I found it a bonus on previous cars. When I'm cleaning it (post washing sequence) I can leave the door open and have the radio playing without having the keys in the ignition.

It would also be a bonus when you are sitting waiting in the car as you would not have to have the dashboard partially lit up as it does on ignition position 1.

Used to do this with the 206 (until the paintwork was so wrecked washing it made it worse!).

It used to auto switch off after 20 minutes to protect the battery.
