Setting Microphone Level

Below is exact copy of mail from Honda dealer.

"Bluetooth Voice Recognition Problem

FIX

If a customer is having problems refering to a Bluetooth voice recognition
with the above systems plese refer to the MIC level setup on the system,
this can be found by pressing MAP, MENU and CANCEL buttons on the sat nav
unit and then selecting the unit check option. Once in this menu if you
press the "TALK" button and speak clearly into the microphone this will set
the volume for the microphone. You will notice the green bars rising on the
display as you talk, we would advise getting the green bars in the upper
third of the meter but not all the way to the top as this may cause the
system not to recognize your voice as well."

I could not find it in the unit check option, but instead used the functional setup menu. I realise it does not strictly refer to HFT, but does mention Bluetooth.

Also I am not exactly sure what the setup actually does, whether it changes as you talk to increase the response to your voice, I know when I tried earlier it did begin low and get higher, but I could have perhaps began to shout.

If you change the mic gain, be prepared to retrain the voice recognition.

Is this actually the mic gain that it is changing, I have asked Honda to confirm what this setting actually does. When you say retrain what do you mean?

Just one other thing came to me, do you think this will actually improce the HFT performance, or do we still need to loof to swap the microphone sides and then perhaps change the mic level?

Anybody actually played with the mic settings, if so did it help. I received a mail 2 - 3 weeks ago from Honda CS saying they were looking into the problem, but I guess it might take some time to get a resolution.

Any feedback would be appreciated, still struggling with the HFT.

To be honest I played with mine too, although didn't actually know what I was doing, or what it did, or even if me chatting away to the car in diagnostic menu whilst driving would do anything, but a few people have said the phone sounds better at higher speed.

What exactly did playing with the menu achieve?

I've had a response from Honda CS, there apparantly is a fix, the email received from Honda suggests a counter measure has been introduced. I will let you know how I get on.

Very interesting. Let us all know how you get on.
If this is in fact a fix, then there could be a big queue at the dealers.

I'm guessing the 'parts' in question is just the panel with the holes on the right side instead of them being on the left.

Would'nt help with those that have a sunroof - The right hand side hole is not an option, that is where the switch for the roof blinds is located

Solution at last.............

Good news - I have found the proposed fix -

Got it from another site. They get the junior mechanic to superglue it on the dash, in front of the Speedo.

Called my local dealer this morning, spoke to service to get the car in and fixed, unfortunately the lady on the desk did not even realise there was a problem with the HFT let alone there being a fix to it.

I am waiting for a call back, thats 2 calls from Honda Dealer I am waiting for, one to do this and the other to get my fog lamp and stone chip fixed.

Popped in to dealers to get a price for a replacement fog lamp at lunchtime and mentioned the "fix" so far no-one is aware of the problem, or the fix, even when the dealer spoke to the lady at Honda CS who otld me there was a fix. Apparantly they need to talk to someone in technical who is out till this afternoon. But, the dealer did say he had been told it didn't involve moving the microphone (whether the mod you saw on another site was a dealer ad hoc fix I dunno). He was aware of "cones" being place over the microphone to direc the sound into it better, like a hearing trumpet. But he did suggest it might just mean changing the mic volume, now that ain't a fix.

In case you are interested, one replacement fog lamp, £145 + VAT, plus £45 fitting, apparantly its a bumper off job.
