Satellite Controlled Clock

Hi all,

So British Summer Time's over and we all had to put back our clocks (REALLY enjoyed my extra hour in bed this morning). Then I realised just how many clocks I had to change in the house. What was nice is that the clock in my car had changed by itself - cool!!!!

Glad you enjoyed your extra hour in bed JP. I was one of the unfortunates who was working last night and had to do an extra hour. Agree on your point about the auto clock though.

Cheers Brian,

It's just one less thing to change isn't it? Definately NOT a gimmick. I love the fact that's SO precise. It's accurate to the second!

Think of me now though, I don't finish until 3 (in the AM)!

3am!!!!! Thats luxury. I'm on until 7am. Still am off for a fortnight from tomorrow morning. My clock changed in the civic the moment I started it up so agree it is useful and not a gimmick.

Seems to be working over here too! When I went driving last night, I noticed that the clock had adjusted itself.

Me too, 13 hour shift last night wasn't fun, especially as I had to get up at 1pm and then do another 12 shift tonight....soon be off home to bed and a long rest

Funny the clock thing, I sat at work looking at all my 14 pc's and systems checking and waiting for clocks to auto update, some went right away others took an hour. When I got in the car I thought..."How do I change the time?!?!?!" and hey presto changed in front of my eyes well that was one less job to do before going home

BTW Brian, do you work in Energy?

Huh? Why didn't mine do that? Better check again later, but yesterday it was still showing summer time. Odd.

Probably just the Sat Nav models - the time is taken from the GPS satellites.

I found out the hard way that the clock gets updated by the SatNav - my EX was delivered without the cable that connects the SatNav to the rest of the car, so the clock was reading completely the wrong time and there was no way to change it.
I wouldn't have thought that GPS satellites know about Summer Time - more likely done by the operating system in the SatNav - I think Pottsy said it's Windows CE.

GPS sats have UTC time.

Daylight saving etc is done by the OS.

Wouldn't it be better to keep to GMT all the time ?. This messing about with clocks twice a year is played out.

The GPS Sats are just flying Atomic clocks that just send out a beep signal with no data. BG is right the OS will change the time
