My car now locks itself after about 2mins of being unlocked; even if I don't lock it myself; did it do this before or is this due to this?
I'm quite happy unless I manage to leave my keys in the car with the doors shut and then it locks itself....ouch!

If you unlock the car but dont open any doors it will always lock itself after 2 minutes. Standard feature.

Still not convinced on this Auto unlock thing to be totally honest.

I have an EX (a december 2005 car) but there is absolutely no reason why the auto locks would function differently between Ex's Es's or Sport's. If one car Automatically unlocks its doors upon stopping and turning off (removing key) then why dont the rest? Makes no sence at all.

Quick poll......

How many people who have successfully activated Auto Locking also now have Auto unlocking upon turing off and removing the key?

Thanks - I think I'd always opened the door before now; I unlocked the car then had a look at it.

Poll -
Auto Locking - Yes
Auto Unlocking - No

I can't seem to disable auto unlock either. Although I only had one go.

Mine is a 1.8 Exclusive, now it locks but doesn't auto-unlock.

However, I've test driven a 2.2 iCTDI Exclusive Navi and it auto-locked and auto-unlocked!

Re unlocking when ignition turned off:

For info I just turned the ign to II and held down the door lock button until the 2nd click. Once working, I cant remeber if it unlocked straight away after turning ign off, as i then did a lot of random fiddling in my (initially) fruitless attempts to disable the autolocking. This could have inadvertantly activated the 'ign off unlock feature' assuming you can choose.
Now I know i can turn it off I will try and work out exactly what I did....
My car is a 1.8 SE so if that does it, all the superior models should as well.

OK - worked it out.

To turn on auto-locking at 10mph (16kph)
- Close the driver's door
- Put the key into position II
- Hold down the door lock button until you hear two sets of "locking" noises. This takes about 6 seconds.
- Turn the key back to position I

To turn on auto-unlocking when turning off the ignition
- Close the driver's door
- Put the key into position II
- Hold down the door unlock button until you hear two sets of "unlocking" noises. This takes about 6 seconds.
- Turn the key back to position I

I think these two function are independent - if you just have auto-unlocking on it'll unlock the doors if you've locked them manually with the button, or if they've been locked by the auto-lock feature.

What I haven't worked out yet is how to turn OFF the auto-unlock - simply doing the same procedure with the door open didn't seem to do it for me this morning. Will investigate further when I have time, though.

On one hand if I don't like this feature of if I think that it's a risk, ie. when stopping people could "jump" in then I'd want to turn it off; which is why I'm reluctant to try....
but I know I'm too much of a fidget so will seriously be trying this at lunch!

PS. How many people did exactly what RiP said above to attempt to disable auto-lock? As to me it would seem most logical.
PPS. Thanks to everyone in this forum; it's amazing that we can find this kind of thing out and share it freely.

I thought that to begin with, but I don't think it's too bad - or at least, no less safe than it is already. If there are suspicious looking characters around, just leave the engine running for a short while. If you don't have the auto-unlock enabled, all the doors unlock when you do it manually anyway, so that's no better. What would be good is a system has the option to just unlock the driver's door; maybe the first press of the unlock button (or the auto system) should do that, then a second press unlocks all the other doors. Doing that on the remote too so you have the option of only unlocking the drivers door when getting in would be great too.

Got it, now Auto lock and un-lock is working,

To switch it off repeat the process with the door open, applies to lock and unlock.

Hummm doesn't work for me. All those who got it to work, roughly how long do you press the door lock button for?

thanks

Just wait for the second sound of the central locking trying to work then turn the ignition off completely (take key out if you like).
