NAV monitor on 1.4 Sport

This is the NAV monitor, from an EXEC 1.8/2.2 CIVIC (FK2, FK3).
Anyone knows if it may replace the standard 1.4 SPORT (FK1) or 1.8 COMFORT type?
If Yes my idea is to find a solution for no NAV civic to install the rearview camera, so usefull to see something in the rear back.

I can't see any reason why not....providing of course you've got the rest of the relevant dashboard areas surrounding the screens.....

I'm sure Pottsy will be able to advise you - he's had his car in pieces after about 3 hours of ownership!!!!

I think you'll need a few more bits than that!
The heater controls are routed through the Audio system and the jog knob, Sat Nav, assorted wiring etc.... The best bet would be to get a complete dash from a car so equipped and swap most of it.

Not so bad if you have a scrap donor car though with the harness etc intact.

I think you will need this as I actually think the whole dashboard is different. It looks to be "taller" in the EX to accommodate the larger screen.

I think not all the wiring / electronics is present in a 1.4 to have a simple replacement. You will need the SATNAV DVD player, since there is where the camera connects to.

You could try to connect to the clock radio you have there

I have read somewhere that the navi monitor is RGB input not videocomposite, so if it is true (need confirm) the alpine navi has a video converter inside.
That's why an aftermarket convert wil be necessary between camera and monitor.
I don't think the clock radio monitor is suitable, it is a text only LCD I suppose.
I'm an electronic engineer too so cable connections may not be a problem if I know car schematics.
What about the dashboard: viewing the photos, only two small pieces of dashboard might be need to be replaced, besides the monitor.

You might struggle to get those, but when and if you do you'll see the 'jog' button linked via the radio to the Sat Nav player which in turn is linked to the display via the radio. As I've said the heater controls also go through the radio.

Of course you could probably hash together a harness to get something to work, but at the risk of something else not working. From what I can gather the whole electrical system is 'wired' for diagnostics and if you upset something strange things may occur.

For your info;
I installed the colour rearview camera and it connects to the DVD satnav system.
It is a composite 1Vpp/75ohm signal.

The actual shape of the dash differs between EX and other models, the dash on the EX is bigger to fit the screen so you would need new dash parts before you consider heating and other complications. I'm not sure it can be done easily/cheaply.

Yes the dash is different on the EX. You would need to change the trim above the radio (behind the vents). In the EX it is sunk lower into the dash to accommodate the screen, as is the triangular trim next to display. But these are the least of your worries, wiring it all up would be nearly impossible! On the EX, the Nav, Climate Control & Audio are connected via the multiplex wiring (CAN - Bus)
