Hello Civic drivers,
During the waiting for my new Civic (ordered 1st october, arrival probably feb. march) I've been reading the Civinfo forum a lot. I was surprised to see the many features on the new Civic comparing to the 2002 model, which I drive now for almost five years. I was wondering, does anyone know if it's possible to switch the speedometer between kilometers per hour and miles per hour. I live in Holland and a few times a year I drive around in the UK. It would be handy to switch to mph in Folkestone. Thanks from Holland (still waiting........) |

If I am wright it is not possible to switch from kph to mph in the dutch models. It is only possible to switch from mph to kph for the UK models as far as I know.

Yes Meino you're right. I would have loved that function but had to settle for using the 2 speed alarms whilst in the UK (as UK owners can convert to kilometers, but not the other way around I'm afraid). Not very EU friendly!!
So basically, you can set the car to beep at you when you reach a certain speed i.e. 50 km/h, 100 km/h and 110 km/h. Unfortunately, there are only two speed alarms, so you can't cover all three options i.e. town, single lane and dual carriageways/motorway driving. Of course, with so many speed cameras in the UK it's rather important to know how fast you're going. In the absence of a conversion, the speed alarms serve as a decent reminder though. At least I don't think I fell foul anywhere!! |

speed without a care
at the moment unless you have a uk reg car the police will not bother you unlike in france where they fine you on the spot no money and you get locked up
Not in england if they lock you up you get tax credits free healthcare (tony blairs wife will look after you) |

Crikey, isn't the idea of Blair's wife looking after you a deterrent? I certainly wouldn't claim political asylum if that were the case!
I would mention that, if a foreign driver doesn't pay the congestion charge in London and then enters the charging zone, they'll get a bill through the post to their mainland European address eventually. Get caught by a speeding camera and it all depends upon the amount of tickets they've sent out that month (i.e. if they've fulfilled their quota you're unlikely to be troubled). Anyway, look on the bright side, at least you can get a decent plumber nowadays |
