Sat Nav DVD - does it prevent playing CDs?

Hi all,

First post, just found this forum after ordering a Galaxy Grey 1.8 EX and have to say it is an excellent resource!

Does the Sat Nav DVD take up the CD player and prevent music CDs being played? I ask because a friend at work says this is how his (older) satnav system works, just wondering if the EX has the same limitation.

Thanks!

Bob

Hi and Welcome Bob!

The DVD player for the Sat Nav is in the glovebox so no problems with your MP3 cd's

Excellent - that's good, thought and hoped the modern systems would have their own drive, but wondered where it was.

What suprises me is that they use a dvd at all.

Surely a 4GB CF card would be a lot easier!?

You're correct if the owner is net savvy and can mange downloading updates and upgraded maps as per the portable systems. For the everyday owner and for people not so computer literate it's easier to use the DVD format.

It's a Dual Layer disk too so it wont all fit on a 4GB card

Yep - have a look in the wiki and you'll see the file listings for the DVDs. About 8Gb of data, so that would be £50 of card versus a £1 DVD. And every penny counts....
