Thats why I'm happy with my choice... If the price was not so high it would have been different because it look always better with a built in unit, but having to pay 3 500 € more to have a non evolutive system, No Thanks !

"Find Nearest Speed Camera"

Anything is possible - it just takes a bit of time...

I've just have my Type-R GT with satnav for a couple of weeks - I'm hoping to workout where the POI info is stored + work on a way of updating these using one of the many freely available internet sources. (you would need to burn a new DVD for each update)

Also it should be possible to add speed cameras (i've already found the icons used on the screen - easy to add another) - the difficulty with this one is having a tone to warn you..

One database I was looking at seperates the safety cameras according to speed - ie 30mph cameras, 40mph cameras etc.. so in theory - it should be possible to sound a warning only when you are exceeding the speed limit for that camera (the sat nav knows how fast you are moving)

This is obviously gonna take some time to work out - especially as we have a newborn baby (read - can't escape to my computer room!) but I'll get there!

Some people have already hacked the previous model civic's sat nav to get rid of the OK button and a few other tricks - some of the methods they use work on the new model..

If I can just find the time......

I wonder if Honda / Alpine will offer any help if I ask them... on the proviso that I let them have the improvements... or maybe they could contract me ?
