Automation Automatic Side Lights?

Am I right in thinking the automatic lights for the Civic are just for the main headlights and not the sidelights?

It can not switch on the sidelights first and then when it is darker switch the main headlights on can it?

Correct, it is just for the main driving lights.

I have on my last 3 cars avoided using them because my route to work involves a few overhanging tree roads and at certain times of the day they are on & off all the time.

Don't want them switching on when approaching a side road and a car pulls out in front - ouch!
