I have a new Civic Type S 1.8 i-vtec, 2 months old now with 1932 miles. Problem I'm having just started a few days ago, there seems to be like electrical sparking from behind the dash followed by a sound like the wiring is frying and the smell you get when you plug in a new electrical appliance for the first time. This crackling and sparking noise is there about 70% of the time and since this started, I am now getting a massive static charge building up on the car. Took it to a mate of mine who is an auto spark, he confirms that it is definately electrical arcing, and potential for the car to go on fire. Told me to get it back to Honda asap. Dealer closed for easter holidays, anyone got similar problems. Has ipod adapter and ambient blue lighting fitted.

if i was you I would not use the car at all and demand that the local dealer comes and collects it and leaves you with a FREE loan car. You do not want to risk a fire which is a possibility.

It's just the time of year regarding static shocks. Not had them throughout the winter, and now they've started happening again. I always remember to not touch the metal on getting out. Doesn't stop my passengers from doing it, though

Push the door closed with the window - no shocks.
The dealership must be open again by now from the Easter hols, you not covered by the AA? |

Magoo,
I'd be careful about where you parked it in the meantime. I wouldn't be upset if my car torched itself, but I would if it took out my house with it! Hopefully the dealer will get it sorted quickly. |

re. saw this and thought of you
Thanks mate, after the last couple of days, I wish that would happen, a new car and no problems would be great.
Always look on the bright side of life. I wish. Cheers |

The car was delivered to the dealer last night , I had to go to the dealer today to collect courtesy car. I arrived at 12.00am and was handed the keys to my own car and told that they had taken it for a 10 mile drive and nothing had shown up, said that nothing had shown up on the computer either. I rejected taking the car back, and they agreed to keep it until monday and for one of the service managers to drive it during that time to see if anything shows up. I have told them to keep it for as ong as they need to, to get the problem sorted, but once I get the car back if the sparking problem arises again, I will be rejecting the car for good and will accept nothing less than a refund or a replacement car.
They said they would try their best. !! See what happens next. Magoo |

Funny you should say that, 'cos I've noticed that for the past couple of days, I keep getting static shocks off the car body, not just mine, but cars in general. Why do you suggest it's the time of year though? The reason I ask is that I agree with you - thinking about it now, I can't remember getting these shocks in the winter. And another thing - they bloody hurt... |

I got 2 static shocks off my car recently and thought of the above.
I'm not wearing anything different to normal though. Does the sun do anything with it, heat maybe makes the static more? |
