Thanks for your reply, it's encouraging that is the case with the gauze - did you still have the dealer fix without the gauze? Is your background noise problem now solved?

I had the dealer fix without the gauze......and now it's really bad again.
I have noticed, that without fail, the HFT will always misunderstand the 1st command I issue to it after starting the car. Has anyone else found this? |

I have noticed that since I did mine it is really sensitive.
Raising my voice or being too close to the mic and it can easily misunderstand. I now look towards the door mirror and speak in a normal if not slightly subdued voice - works 99% of the time. |

HFT/Voice Control
Yeah, I find that she doesn't ever hear the first command of the journey especially the unlock code for the HFT system.
Other than that no probs. Still learning the commands though! |

I know this may annoy some, but, I have read through this thread and I have to admit I think the hft and voice controls are excellent. I have had my type s gt for a week now (it is 2months old 08 plate ex demo with 800miles) and have used the voice controls and phone system at hight speed and have had no problem. My commands are understood more than 90% of the time and people can hear me crystal clear.
I used to have a Pioneer avic x3 with bluetooth in my audi and that was not anywhere near as good as the honda system, which surprised me. I am only posting this as perhaps honda have corrected this problem? or is it something which develops over time which I should expect? Cheers Ant |

No - it doesn't develop over time, it's present from day 1. You might have a fluke of a car that works as it should! Maybe this is a sign of Honda learning from their mistakes?!

July 2008 Helping you fix it right the first time - every time New Microphone Assembly Improves Voice Command Recognition Currently Applies To: ’08–09 Accord and ’09 Pilot with navigation system Voice command recognition for the navigation system and HandsFreeLink® (HFL) has taken a big leap in performance with the introduction of a new ceiling console microphone assembly. This assembly, which consists of two microphones mounted side-by-side along with a microcomputer, handles signal processing for the navigation system, HFL, and active noise cancellation (ANC) (if equipped). This helps filter out competing noises so the navigation system or HFL can better understand the driver’s voice commands and there’s less of those annoying “Pardon” or “Please repeat” responses. When you press the applicable Talk button on the steering wheel and give a voice command after the beep, your voice actually reaches the left microphone just a fraction of a second sooner than it reaches the right one that’s farther away. The microcomputer uses the timing of these two signals to recognize and respond to your commands. Competing noises (passenger voices, wind noise from open windows, noise from dashboard vents and side vents, etc.) simply get filtered out. Because of the way things work, any passenger voice commands get ignored. And this could be mistaken by service customers for a voice command recognition problem, which, of course, it’s not. The navigation system and HFL are made to respond to voice commands from just one person—and that’s the driver. But that doesn’t mean your passengers are treated like complete mutes, either. Once you’ve placed or received a call with HFL, the microphone assembly makes adjustments so that any of your passengers can also join in on the call. |

I find mine gets it wrong the first time I use it after starting the car.
Even if I press the phone button and then "hang up" without saying anything, this appears to work.. |

Navi Voice Command Problems? Check This Out NOTE: This article applies to ’03 –06 Accords, ’06 Civics, ’05 –06 Odysseys, ’06 Pilots, and ’06 Ridgelines with the navigation system. If you’ve got a vehicle in your shop because the navigation system doesn’t seem to understand voice commands, check these items. Any one of them can affect voice recognition performance. • Air Vents: Make sure none of the dashboard vents point toward the map light and microphone. Air blowing on the microphone creates noise that cuts down a lot on the navigation system’s voice recognition capability. • Road Noise: Driving on noisy road surfaces, driving with the moonroof or a window open, or using the Recirc mode with the blower cranked up increases the noise level inside the vehicle. This can affect how well the navigation system’s voice recognition works. • Other Passengers: The navigation system’s voice recognition can’t separate the driver’s voice from those of other passengers. • Wrong Commands: If the navigation system doesn’t respond to voice commands, make sure they’re the right ones and they’re given in a clear and concise voice. For more info, press the INFO button on the front of the audio unit and select Voice Command Help from the Information screen . Last edited by 12watch; 4th October 2008 at 14:40. |

Yes, if you press the button and then hang-up, it takes some time to hang-up, but then operation after that seems fine.
Definitely a bug there I think - maybe it runs Windows! |

"Pardon"
Sorry couldn't resist. It can get frustrating when you trying to give it a command, mine usually changes radio station when I am trying to adjust the temperature. Very good to impress mates if it works fine but a little embarrassing when it gets it wrong. |
