Not sure what has been done - have been too nervous to disturb it. I will look tomorrow and let you know.

Even the not quite square squares cut out of it. Maybe there is a reason for the odd shape.

I did my own fix today, 100% perfect operation of the Hand Free and greatly improved voice recognition. Vary Happy!

Very simple if you don't want to wait for the garage to do it, and it can be removed in an instant.

Just get some Bluetac and make a thin roll of it.
Then apply the roll all around the edge of the microphone making sure you don't cover the holes that are under the foam (yes the holes are where the holes have been cut in the Honda fix).

This seems to join the microphone to the cover and create a much better channel for the sound to the microphone.

When dialling numbers by voice control it never gets it wrong, even if you say 'Oh' instead of Zero.

Give it a try.

Can't show you as it is to dark tonight for photos.

Got mine booked in to do next Thursday, and on the debate of Dealer or DIY I go dealer everytime, costs Honda money to fix these problems and the more people that go to them with the problems the more it costs....so maybe one day they might get it right after they have given all this money away.

And to the DIYers....why oh why are you letting them get away with it?!?!?!? if we all ring CS and contact dealers maybe we won't get the usual "Never heard of that" Rollox I got from 3 dealer yesterday

Jimbo my EX has been fixed today by the dealers in chester. It still does not work, not even an improvement on before.
I have just had a look behind the cover and it looks like a bit of foam has been added and a couple of holes cut in it.
IS THAT THE FIX ?????????

Yes but it does seem to improve the performance of the HFT in most instances

Check if the foam is fitted for the HFT fix (See RR's picture below). For the dampers, you would hear them when driving slowly over bumps.

Well!

I took my car in for the Fuel Pump recall today and asked that the mod be fitted for the Hand Free issue. I told them that people on the phone had trouble hearing me when travelling, I can hear them OK.

When I collected the car they told me there was nothing wrong with the hands free it worked fine in the workshop, but they said thay had turned up the volume in the car! Do they not listen?
I explained that when stationary it did seem OK but when travelling it was hard to hear me. The said they did not know of a bulletin for the fix either, and had a look for one but did not find it. SO no fix applied and none offered. Absolute rubbish (Lookers Honda in Warrington)

So I called Honda CS when I got home, told them what had happened. They said there was a fix and they would call the dealer and ask him to call me to book another visit. Why do I need to make 2 trips !!!

I finally got around to booking my Civic in to get the 'official' HFT fix today.

First impressions are that the fix isn't as good as the BluTack method I've been using (as illustrated elsewhere here). Still, I hardly got any speed up as it's all town roads from my local Honda dealer to home, so I'll give it a good workout when I'm out and about tomorrow.

On the plus side my dealer made a very good job of cleaning the car... inside and out!

Hi , as I said before , I have had the mod. carried out by Honda and it does not seemed to have improved things, most people I talk to on the phone complain of noise which sounds like electrical interference , this seems to vary as i drive along but doesnt appear to be affected by speed , I thought this may be a problem with my Nokia 6680 so I tried a 7610 last week and still the same !
I found some info on this web site about increasing the mike volume (instructions from Honda C.S.) but nothing seems to happen when I try this.
Help !

HFT - has anyone thought about wiring in a different microphone from a decent quality kit - say a Nokia or Motorola?

As long as the specs are the same(?) presumably they should improve on background noise and clarity

Mike

(no I don't have any mics lying around )

I put that suggestion to my dealer the very first time they had it, long before Honda CS got the call from me, they felt it was not possible, and to be fair I didn't want that to be the fix, at the moment the mic is discrete, if I had wanted a black block glued to the A pillar I would have saved the cash and got the company to install a standard Nokia kit and cradle.

though indeed, possibly cutting the mic off a (Nokia) kit, and replacing the Honda one with it (still up in the same position, or maybe better, in the DIY fix position on the right) might give better results

if someone wants to give it a go

Could you ask your dealer what they actually do?

There seems to be doubt about whether they implement some sort of fix or actually replace the microphone.

Thanks

Mike
