FM Transmitter vs. Cable and the Iphone 5

My brother in law has asked for an FM transmitter to connect his Iphone 4S to the Sat Nav system in his civic. I was thinking that the best way to connect it to the stereo would be with a cable, using one of the various options available.

Then I remembered hearing a rumour that Apple is going to change the connection type with the new Iphone 5 making all accessories obsolete.

So my question is: to stop a present I buy him only working for a sort while (i.e. a cable) do you think and FM transmitter for the Iphone is a better bet or have I missed any other options?

Accessories like the XCarlink for iPhone have a separate cable to connect to the device - surely you would just be able to replace this?

Click the image to open in full size.

Other cable connections that just use the AUX in via the device's headphone port would continue to work regardless.

I did consider this but I wonder how long it will take for them to catch up (along with all the other idevice accessory manufactures out there!)

Using the AUX is another option but would that be any better than using an FM transmitter, can anyone comment on that? I would imagine hard wired would be better.

Get a Connects2 its cheap and you don't have to worry about the new iphone lead.

Avoid the FM transmitter I used one an it was rubbish.

MUCH better to use a cabled connection (or bluetooth) than an FM transmitter; as a lot of quality is lost via the FM link.
