If it is a Honda nav it can be installed, but I would consider a few things before doing so:
- if you are offered an original nav by some private seller it may well be stolen
- if you install a nav it may be stolen the next day leaving you with a ruined dash and nobody ready to pay for this (most insurances don't include such items)
- you cannot upgrade (in 2 years or so) to a newer better nav if it's installed (apart from software upgrades of course).

Maybe I sound paranoid but navigation equipment is on the top of the thieves' wishlist, so I decided to buy a mobile satnav

It has been asked before and the answer is always:

Yes, it is probably possible, but no-one here has done it.

BUT

It is a serious ammount of work and you need new steering wheel etc etc.
The work and additional parts means it is probably not worthwhile thinking about.

But if you are brave and go for - make a "how to" guide for the site

I wouldn't touch it mmikeys, tis very complex and the bits and bobs that you will need to purchase from Honda, will be very expensive.
Get yourself a decent Tom Tom or Garmen, in the after Christmas sales.

I think an aftermarket 2-Din would be less difficult and much cheaper.

Although that too is a challenge...
The CRV unit is probably integrated into other parts of the car and is probably VERY expensive as a sparepart.
Why would you want to do it?

See the following for aftermarket solutions:
Double Din facia with aftermarket head unit and navi - fitted with pictures
and
adapter Double Din

Here is the CRV unit:

If you remove the radio, for example, aircon displays can vanish. And thinking of aircon, even the satnav screen shows and controls the aircon.

Tomtom/Garmin is the way forward!

Donīt see why you would want to try that over a really nice double din aftermarket unit, if you are going down that route.

Well if you find someone who has rolled their CRV maybe you can get one cheap...

Still donīt think it is worth trying.
Start with trying to find out what connections the CRV unit requires.

Presuming Emil does not have an EX, then the satnav screen does not control the aircon in his Civic.

Radio can be hidden to keep clock control / display etc.

See pics below from other threads.

But, the CRV "satnav" may in the CRV control aircon etc, you will never get that to work in the Civic...

A TomTom or Garmin is MUCH easier though...

Yes, it all becomes a nightmare... You'd need to change the radio to the EX model too, or just try and run the satnav in a totally isolated mode (but then it may error the whole time because it can't talk to the bits of the car it needs to work).

Looking at the CRV broshure it looks like the CRV satnav is more standalone than the Civics.
Looks like it is a radio / satnav unit.

It does appear that aircon controls etc are seperate.

But, I am still sure it connects to and talks to other parts of the car for things like movement (when not under gps signal), antenna etc etc

Probably cheaper to sell your car and buy an EX.
See posts in the begining of this thread.

Do:able in theory but loads of work and parts needed.

I cant agree with that. No thief is gonna break into your car and remove half the dash. They wouldnt have the time to.

Anyone heard of a factory mounted satnav being stolen?

Garmins and TomToms - yes....

That is why I went for a factory one.
