Transmission kickdown

Hi all,

Have had my Civic for 2 months now (1.8l Auto SE) and noticed a distinct lack of power when mashing the accelerator pedal to overtake. To compensate I would regularly use the paddle shift function. Tonight i realised it was the rubber floor mat preventing the pedal from allowing kickdown. I have a rubber mat to protect the factory carpet floor mats. The thickness of the rubber mat was just enough to prevent full travel of the pedal. This was the only major criticism of the car and it has been resolved.

I have the same car and notied that the kickdown is sort of in two stages.

There is a feeling of pressing over some gentle resistance and then the car does change down a gear, However by continuing to press down on the pedal it turns out that there is still some pedal distance to go and there is a more firm resistance point which when passed makes the car change right down and leap forward.

I was worried about my acceleration until I found how to work the kick down. Now it works instantly and is ideal for fast overtaking.

Yes, it takes more of an effort to initiate kickdown. You'd probably not do it often as the engine noise is quite loud when doing so.

Yes they do, I saw one in the show room, better than the 8th gen auto which only gives you D or D3, where there is no control of leaving it in 4th gear.

The paddles work differently according to whether the selector is in D position or S position.

Basically in D position the paddle change will return to normal auto when it senses you no longer need it. In S position it stays with the paddle choices.
