What caused it, do you know ?? Did you get any feedback ?? It would be interesting to know as I am about to embark on the warranty route.

I have just cancelled my inspection with Honda as the clutch has now stopped slipping (again), unfortunately its hard to complain about a slipping clutch when its not slipping, going to have to wait until it starts slipping again (hopefully it won't) and then take it straight to the dealership. They are still pleading ignorance to the problem and a £600 investigation on my part is not going to happen any time soon.

I cant believe it, mines stopped as well, is it the weather ?? Been slipping now for 2 months, appox 5000 miles gradually getting worse and more frequent, managed to get Honda to agree to take out gearbox etc on warranty and inspect and now its bloody stopped. Its booked for Thursday this week. Dont know what to do now.... It has not slipped for the last 600 miles and its never behaved like that at all in the last 2 months. Its doing my head in.

How do you normally drive the car? Mines mostly motorway, occassional thrashing but 90% of the time I drive like a Sunday driver. It seemed to improve after a "hard" drive from London to Manchester.

I think they are doing this on purpose to mess with our heads , perhaps its a "feature".

Yeah, mostly motorway/dual carriageway. I think we drive pretty much the same !! It must be a fault and Im not sure whether to get them to take the gearbox/clutch out now, or will it be ok now ?? Think I will have to ring them tomorrow and seek their advise. Its been a very regular problem for 2 months and now its fine again, like I said doing my head in !!

Clutch slipping or premature clutch wear (All variants up to 200)...first thing to be checked by your dealer is correct adjustment of clutch pedal stop or cruise control switch if fitted...hope this helps.

Yeah, all been checked and found to be fine. Thats why it took so long to get to where we are today. And now its all fine, stopped on its own. Car was supposed to go in tomorrow for investigation work, taking the gearbox out etc on warranty, but I have cancelled it as all seems fine at the moment. Hope it stays that way.

tezwar not sure on your mileage ? but a clutch should be stable at all times not slipping and then OK that is not normal...I think if you came into us we would want to look at that further especially as you have had the pedal checked out....IMO if that slips again get it back to your dealer

Yep, that is what is arranged. Slipping started at about 44000 about 2 months ago. Its now on 51000. It only slipped from about 2000 rpm but sometimes went as far at 3000 rpm before it stablised. It was an intermittant problem. Some days it was fine, others it was a right royal pain in the ass, especially on hills. But like I said for the last 1000 miles or so it has been perfect, with no slipping at all. Its a strange one, but I see other people with the same problem, some have had theirs changed, others it has also stopped on. Will keep a very close eye on it and straight back to the dealers if it happens again.

Hi all,

My clutch started to slip last weekend. I took it to my local dealers and they hadnt been able to see the clutch slip but the technician said it didnt feel right so they took the engine out to look at the clutch. Today I was told that the clutch was faulty and that it was going to be replaced under warranty. I asked them if the flywheel was ok as this type (dual mass) can cause problems very similar to clutch slipping but I was told it was ok. From what I understand about dual mass flywheels the flywheel also needs to be replaced when the clutch it replaced. Will someone else be able to shed some light about this? Hondatech?

Thanks

Alfa diesels also are fitted with a dual mass flywheel.Basically there's are 2 components rubber bonded together allowing the flywheel to absorb some of the harsh take up that can occur with a high torque engine. If the bonding should become 'tired' due to fair wear and tear or constant slipping it would need changing(also if the face the friction plate mates to were worn). If it were in physically good condition still,it would,nt necessarily need changing.

Hi Guys,

Just collected my car from the dealers today. THe car is a 06 reg and I had done 28K miles when the slipping started although the biting point on the clutch seem to come up a few thousand miles before which led me to think that the clutch was wearing. Talking to the service guy he said that the clutch plate was worn on one side but not on the other and that they suspected the pressure plate so they have replaced the clutch and pressure plate. I asked him about the flywheel and the guy said its not a dual mass flywheel on the civic and the flywheel on my car was ok. I guess the pressure plate could have not been flat with the clutch which wore it out but i didnt really notice any juddering till the clutch started to slip. I wonder if its the thing that the others have got. Could be a bad batch of pressure plates.

just replaced my clutch after it started slipping at 24k...but only when car loaded up(4/5 occupants)...oh yeah, and it was under warranty.pretty sure it was because the clutch cover surface was not flat when checked with a straight edge.seems fine now.

Clutches slipping at 28000 miles and not a warranty claim? Rubbish!

I've had quite a few old crap cars (not Hondas I hasten to add) all with high mileage and not one has had a slipping clutch even after 100,000 miles. Everything else seemingly has failed, snapped, rusted and fallen off, but that's one component that should last as long as the car.
