Exhaust rattle on 1.8 ex

I have just bought a civic and I've noticed that when I first start up the engine, there is a rattling noise from the exhaust, as the car is idling. The noise disappears, once the car starts to move. Has anyone else experienced this and is it normal?

Welcome Goo,

Check if the chrome triangles are loose.
This has been known to happen on some cars.

Take it back to the dealer, they should fix this.

I had this just after I collected the car and it seemed to be coming from the passenger side exhaust triangle. I took the car back to the dealer and they said it's a common problem with EX's, but it will go on it's own after about 1000 miles ????

Great I thought, another dealer fob off - but it did dissappear on it's own at about 600 miles - very odd.

I had good look under the car at the time, but could not see/feel anything that was loose?

If was a known issue a year ago, perhaps the dealers know what it is now and have a fix.

Cool

Thanks FWH and Bog! I'm taking the Civic to a dealer to see if they can sort the noise from the exhaust.

Same problem here, only mine's on the driver's side exhaust (although you're in the UK so your passenger side is my drivers side).
I've noticed that it only acts up when it's cold (-5 ~ +2 degrees C in Romania atm). And while the passenger's side drops some water (normal i'd say) this one doesn't.

Thumbs up Exhaust noise solved!

Hey everyone,

Happy new year!

I took my civic to the dealer yesterday. All is well! The noise i heard from the exhaust apparently is due to the build up of condensation they said, in the steel pipes. They said once i've done some long distance driving, that should clear.
I am taking the car in now to have some foam put in behind the mic to improve the HFT.
Love the civic though!
