How often for an oil change?
Hi folks,
Just been browsing through my civic manual, (only had it for 6 months, thought I should read it). On page 360 it states that the engine oil should be changed every 10,000Km (6,250 miles), under normal conditions. (UK owners handbook, 2.2 diesel) The Wiki, and my own understanding is that the oil is changed at the service interval of every 12,500 miles.. Who is correct? If my engine now blows up after 9,000 am I still in my warranty? LJ |

i was thinking the same, most people recommend getting you oil changed twice a year! but there isnt even an optional oil service! i was gonna get the oil changed anyway after 6k miles (mines just come up to it!) it cant do the engine any harm!

Hi Looney John/ritchie perriam
It depends on what type of driving you do. If its mainly around town, then 6,000 mile intervals would be o.k. If its an mixture of town and fast road then 12,500. |

!2,500 or annual, whichever comes sooner.
Ignore the manual unless you do a lot of miles, then consult your dealer. |

LJ - the owners manual has the wrong table, look at the top and it says "Except EU". The EU table is, er, missing.
The separate service book does give the correct info though, which is 12,500 miles for normal conditions, and half that for severe conditions. Severe is where the car is used mainly: A: Driving less than 8 km (5 miles) per trip or, in freezing temperatures, driving less than 16 km (10 miles) per trip. B: Driving in extremely hot over 35 °C (95 °F) conditions. C: Extensive idling or long periods of stop-and-go driving. D: Trailer towing, driving with a car-top carrier, or driving in mountainous conditions. E: Driving on muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads. |

Deisels I've owned were changed every 6K Hell or high water! No excuses! Best oil and filters you can get. You owe it to the engine, It works hard after all.
