Question How to change engine oil?

Like the title says, anyone know how to change the engine oil themselves? Had brief look under the car but it has big plate there. Does it need to come off and where is the plug?

Type R specifically, I ask as I got some good synthetic oil for it awhile ago, but I don't trust my local stealer to actually put it in (or not as the case may be).

Cheers!

thats exactly what im scared of doing when i get my oil changed! if i spend £50 on some oil to go in my car, i dont think i would get it! i will probably just get some standard 10W40 and an engineer has some fancy oil for his car! it probably wont happen but im very dubious of trusting them! the oil looks a pain to change from under the car! lots of black plastic and things to get in the way!

I have found a method of taking this plate off... go over a sharp hump back bridge really damn quick, that ripped my big shiny silver plate straight off...

From what I recall after looking under the car afterwards... yes... that is where your oil sump drain plug is hiding....

You could try this.

Oil Pump, Oil Pumps, Extractor Pumps, Buy Online

I used one for intermediate changes on my Rover 75 Diesel and it worked very well, getting the full amount of oil quoted by Rover/ BMW out.

Looking at the the Google search results it seems many people are now using this method.

Remove that plate as shown above and you can't miss the 17mm plug with a big arrow saying engine oil. Easy when you know how eh? Cheers!
