How Far Have You Gone On One Tank Of Fuel
Just watching a very old Top Gear, the one where JC takes an A8 from London to Edinburgh and then back again on one tank of fuel. Well this got me thinking...? I remember, not long after I had bought my car, I did a trip from Leeds to London and back again on a full tank of fuel with 4 passengers. That was a round trip of about 394 miles on a full tank.
I must admit getting closer to home was butt clenching stuff, but we made it. Not bad for a petrol. What about everyone else? |

Newcastle to Plymouth with some left to drive in France for a while before needing to top up, easily over 400 miles.

I got 543 miles on my normal 'back-and-to' to work driving (50% dual carriageway, 50% normal roads)
But mine is a diesel and I was specifically taking it easy to see how much I could get (53.12 mpg) Normally I get about 48mpg. Last edited by dylang652; 14th February 2008 at 11:38. |

The best I got with my 1.8 i-vtec was 780km's, but I didn't go over 110km/h, this was a little town driving and alot of highway driving...
If driving normally I get around 650km's... |

My best is 565 miles (909km) on 44.31 liters. Car reading was 59.5mpg - actual amount was 58mpg (4.6L/100km) 2.2 diesel. Very happy with that.

I have a Type-R and I was doing a long journey, using Cruise control at 70mph, and I managed a genuine 38mpg! I was well chuffed! However on the way back it went down to a less respectible 28mpg.....ooops.

If i leave a petrol station driving softly - my miles to go can show about 600 miles left. But I usually get between 500-550.

Just managed 598.3miles. I was pushing for 600 but the miles to go drops like a stone for the last 20, so when it got to 2 miles to go, I chickened out. Refiled with 46 litres, I must admit I do fill it right up so I can be consistent with the tank to tank mpg. Surprisingly the mpg computer read 57 and I actually got 59mpg. Normally get around 560 on a tank, unless I use the car at the weekends for shorter, quicker, more loaded trips, otherwise it 30 miles a journey doing mostly 30, 40, and 50's with out too many stops and reasonably traffic free. Incidentlly decieded to give the car a clear out on this tank, so plenty of turbo and revs, and I have been getting low to mid 40's, which is excellent. The worst I have got running economically is 51mpg which was on super market stuff, but I admitt it was quite cold and wet that week.

Any urban driving, whether driving really softly or not just sees my mpg drop like a (big) stone. Trip computer currently reads 39mpg. Any idling time at the lights ruins it as well.
I geniunely dont know how you guys get such high figures! |
