Diesel tuning - economy not performance???

Hi Guys,

Is it possible with superchips or someone else to tune a diesel car to be more economic, like reducing top speed and acceleration for more MPG???? Just asking as my neighbour wants to do it to her 1.9cdti Vectra.

ATB,
Tom

Never thought about ways of making a Vectra slower...

She could buy a VW Golf SDI - they are slow you just give up trying to get anywhere - get loads of mpg that way!

The easiest way would be to put a wooden block under the accelerator pedal.

Also seriously, yes, most tuning cos do claim that mpg gets better - and some actually do seem to be telling the truth

I would have thought it would be VERY possible to tune for less power, but
a) I'm not sure that it would then automatically give better mpg?; and
b) it would have to be a custom map, as I can't imagine anyone developing an off the shelf solution with the strapline "double your 0-60 and half your top speed!"

but hey - with the way fuel prices are going, she may start a trend...

The psi powerbox I bought for my Alfa 147 mjet definitely gave another 2-3mpg driven normally.Unfortunately, when making use of all the additional torque,it rapidly finished off the clutch

I think that is a shared engine with the Vectra as well

It's just, she does 400miles plus a week and wants to try to get 2 weeks from one tank of diesel, I would have thought you could reduce the turbo, or limit it to higher revs, like the Vtec, but as you say not many would use it, except perhaps company cars??

There was a stand at the Caravan, Boat and outdoor show which was on at the NEC the other week advertising just that, Diesel power tuning I think it was (National Boat Caravan and Outdoor Show)
Take a look at the exhibitors list..
