V-tec
Simple question i'd like to put through,
In a recent thread i read that on the Type R the vtec is noticed immensly. But is it as easily noticable on a 1.8 ? How do you activate it ? And is there a little light on or something to let you know its working ? |

you can feel the v tec is working at about 4500 rpm
the car starts to pull up and make a bit more engine noise it is a nice feeling |

There is only a i-Vtec light on the Type R, it fully kicks in at 5200 rpm on the Type R.
I've not driven a 1.8 i-Vtec so could not comment about the noise, but I do have a Type R and can confirm that it sounds fantastic when it kicks in, there is also a slight pull back into your seat as you feel it kick in. |

It activates it self at a given rpm (& load?).
I would not say very noticable in the 1,8. Light only in Type R as Angie said. |

In 1.8 it's especially noticable on a slippy surface when its really wet. When you push pedal to the metal it starts accelerating and after about 4500 rpm the wheels starts to spin and the VSA turns on

On my Type-R the V-tec opens at 5200rpm. You will have to find out, at how rpm's does the V-Tec on the 1.8 open up. As for the light "V-TEC" That is on the Type-R GT model. Not sure about the 1.8. Enjoy your ride as do I.

Engine is in 'VTEC' zone actually on very light throttle below 3000rpm (longer intake valve lift to reduce pumping losses - aka Eco VTEC). Full throttle and 2000rpm and engine operates in 'normal' mode, the same as it does at 6500rpm. |

I am sure about VTEC zone, as there are articles about our R18 engine.
One such article can be found here, which explains VTEC in our engines. This is purely economy engine, and VTEC is only for that here. When you floor it, that's it. There's no change all way from 1000-6800rpm, unlike with Type-R, or older VTEC engines. |

Funny we discussed the diff between the 1.8 i-Vtec and the Type R i-Vtec today. For the 1.8 it does as discribed above....when it kicks in on the Type R it drink petrol! Oh and Oil!

It's two completely different set-ups - even if the technology (vtec) is similar: in my 1.8, vtec "kicks" in to save fuel, and in yours it's quite the opposite!

Basically what me and nick said then. He said its for economy in the 1.8 which I agreed with and mines is for performance hence why the R drinks petrol and oil in Vtec
