Hi all,
I've been running my 2.2c-tdi for a yr now and thought I would do the service on it myself. Ran into a little problem though when I couldn't see the oil filter anywhere!! Took all the under tray off but couldn't see any suitable hole for the nice new cartridge filter... very annoying! I had already drained the oil so had to refill with the new stuff, now gonna have to drain it down again! Its a 55 plate by the way, registered early 06. Thanks very much, a decription/pic of where it is would be much appreciated! |

So you aren't going to get it serviced to keep the warranty up? if it's an 06 car the warranty runs to 09, you don't say how many miles the car has done.

I looked in the book and it doesn't have to be a honda service, just done by a competent person. I was assisted by a mechanic, just one who has never worked on a new civic so also couldnt find the filter... Mileage is 30k, but not sure that changes the oil filter location!!!

Open the bonnet, the filter cannister sits on the left side of the block as you look at it, looks a doddle to change the filter. You may need a strap wrench to undo the cap.

Fair point, just in your intial post you said you were doing it yourself. On the mileage just wondered whether it was a 12.5K or 25k service is all. |

A bit off topic, but in the picture, it shows clear as day, move left from the oil filter, and you can see a bolt, and also a threaded hole, with no bolt in it, I was wondering whether my car had a bolt missing, but I can see from the picture, so does yours, just a hole, with nothing in it.
Any ideas (out of interest) what it's for? |

Servicing...Warranty...don't need Honda or Honda Parts
This settles it once and for all... below is a reply on the subject from Honda HQ.
You don't need Honda sevicicing or even Honda parts to keep your warranty intact ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thank you for contacting Honda. Although we always recommend that you have servicing carried out by a Honda dealership, you do not need to do this in order to maintain the warranty. You can take your car to an independent garage for servicing, however you will need to ensure that they use Genuine Honda Parts, or parts of an equal quality to maintain the warranty. If you have any further questions or feedback please complete our feedback form @ www.honda.co.uk or call our Honda UK Contact Centre on 0845 200 8000. Kind regards Doug Honda UK Contact Centre |

To allay your curiosity, here's a pic of the Accord:
http://website.lineone.net/~oystercatcher/i-CTDi_with_cover_removed1.jpg Looks like the power steering pump to me.... (Ignore the red arrow, it's pointing to the fuel filter/priming bulb) |

1.8 oil filter location
The oil filter on the 1.8 is on the front of the engine on the left hand side but is low down where the sump is. you may not be able to see it without taking off one of the shields under the car. It is in an easy location to do your own oil changes once the car is out of warranty
