i-Shift

Now I realise that the i-Shift has had it's teething problems and I have done my share of criticising but since the update it's been perfect. Anyway, I was waitng in some roadworks yesterday and started playing with the display. I reached the trip B mpg which I haven't altered since I bought the car new. It was showing 41.2 mpg. That's 41.2 mpg from a 1.8 ltr. automatic. I know that you're going to say it's not a true auto box but the way I, and probably most other people, drive it there is no discernable difference. I would now buy another one. (Never thought I'd say that.)

Yes, good isn't it! I never really had a problem pre-update, but my wife did. She felt it indecisive and surging a bit.

She now praises it after the modification. Even I notice a smoother transition between gears and it seems to know when I'm slowing for a roundabout.

Brilliant update.

PS My average fuel consumption is just on 43mpg.

Is that Trip Comp or calculated ?

My Trip Comp usually is around the 44MPG mark but calculated is 39MPG.

That's my overall average (just checked and it's 42. on the computer covering 5400 miles.

I did a test by filling, driving 250 miles and refilling and it worked out almost exactly to the computer.

Strange, mine has always been about 5 MPG out, the wrong way

My daily journey is almost non stop on motorways and dual carriageways @ 60 or 70 mph - 46 miles per day.

Was getting 44.5mpg avg after a drive playing with the M mode - i got it to 33mpg -

Is there problems withthe Ishift and the "kick down" and the change betrween up gears when in Automatic mode. just seems to hesitate a bit.

the other car's i test drove i did not notice, the "kick down" as only had them for 5 mins around the block, but its the same as putting your footdown in A mode, it jerks a bit then sounds like rev limited kicking it, and only goes up if i let go of the accell then gently push.

if i use M mode it seems fine

It's not a widely complained about feature as the majority of owners here are extremely pleased with the i-shift, especially after they have the latest software upgrade.

I've had my upgrade and it does seem slightly better.

I'm still in the small club who would rather have a conventional auto.
