Question for the 1.8 users

Hi all,

Looking at getting another Civic next year as the company car as I am pleased with the car and the contribution is reasonable. The only change im thinking of is getting the 1.8 Petrol instead of the diesal. I only do 17,000 miles a year and with the Diesal being on average a grand more and Diesal being more expensive, im thinking the petrol may be a cheaper option.

Can I ask (Not scientific I know) what miles you are getting to the tank and how much you are filling the tank up by. I know it is not scientific but gives a rough idea.

Obviously it depends on your right foot but I am getting about 350 miles per tank in the city if I am careful. If I am not I get about 300 miles per tank.

Mpg

Just filled my tank there and worked out at 38mpg, last fill was 40mpg. Not so much town driving with that but I'm not trying to drive economically either, would say if you wanted a lot more could be got!

Thanks chaps,

Really tempted to go the petrol, thought Civic performace is better in terms of speed not economy.

The difference for me is a extra £30 pper month if I get the diesal.

The average for my car is around 36mpg - I get around 385 to the tank which is mainly town driving.

Civicg: You've said it already.
You're calculating the most economical choice, but when you have the answer, will you follow that or your heart?

I love the petrol. Test drove both. The petrol feels much lighter and smoother particularly round town. I only do 20 miles a day and therefore petrol works out cheaper for me. I get about 40mpg to work and back. 47mpg on the motorway.

I suppose I'm a petrol head, but for me (10-12 kmiles a year) I think petrol is slightly cheaper in the long run.

I stick to the petrol, thank you very much, almost equal performance despite 400 cc and a turbo smaller.

My long-term average is 37mpg. Interestingly, I notice nobody appears to get the published combined-cycle figure, 42-44mpg, I guess that must be difficult to achieve.

I've probably written this many times now, but anyway :
Total overall consumption over 14000 miles in 14 months is 40 MPG.
This is real consumtion, which in my case is 9% higher than stated by the computer.

On paper maybe..but the diesel has more power lower down so it feels quicker
