Engine Oil

Hi all,

I just had my 2nd service (24K) about 4K miles ago. One thing has been bothering me a bit since the service its just that after the service when I checked the oil level the oil in the engine seems black (quite dark) I would have expected the colour to go to almost clear after a service. THis makes me doubt if the dealer really did change the oil. Can anyone else let me know if this colour is to be expected or should I have seen a clearer colour.

Thanks

If you checked the oil straight after the service it should have been clean, allthough if the filter wasnt changed the oil can get dirty pretty quick, but the oil will be dirty now after 4K miles. Dealers, thats why i like to change my own oil..

Hi,

Well i think i checked the oil before I did 1k miles after the service. I have just been thinking if i should change the oil my self just to be sure. Is it a difficult procedure to do? and how much do you think it will cost for oil and filter?

I would have checked it before i left the forecourt . I havent changed mine yet (only 7K), should be straight forward enough. I would think around £30 for Castrol oil and a Honda filter.

Are you going to change the oil yourself, in addition to the dealer doing it at service time or instead of

A diesel would make the clean oil black after about an hour of running if you were lucky.

Hmm well if its like that I guess I guess they must have done it. I was just worried that the oil was black so soon after the service. Thanks guys for the replies

As this is the first "NEW" car Ive had, I will probably leave it in for a first service, and check that the oil has been changed before I leave, then change the oil and filter myself every 6K miles after that.
