i-shift disengages

I have a Dec 2007 registered 1.4 i-shift.

On several occassions whilst driving in auto the gears have suddenly disengaged and "0" (not "N") has appeared in the display. To get it back into gear I have to put my foot on the brake and tap the gearstick into "A". You can imagine this is most disconcerting, especially if you are about to start overtaking another car.

The car has been back to the dealer twice. The first time they couldn't find anything wrong. The second time they upgraded the software. The drive is now much smoother and the "disengaging" problem seem to go away. However, it happend again a couple of days ago.

Am I alone with this problem? Have others experienced it? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Just wondering how you rate your car overall? I have a 1.4 i-Shift on order at the moment, it will be ready 3rd week in July.

Hope you manage to get your problem sorted soon.

If it is showing "0" then the dealer shoud be able to read the diagnostics and investigate thatI would have thought?

I cannot remember ever having seen "0". Just A R and 1 thru 6.

I have had in the distant past a few times when I had no drive because the gear changed and it failed to return the throttle. I put that down to me pressing the throttle too hard during the change and confusing it.

It's been as good as gold since the upgrade (still don't like the i-shift though).

I sometimes see 0 when the engine is running and I have put it in N - say at traffic lights. When I then put it in D it might not engage if it considers my foot was not pressed hard enough on the brake pedal. I then put it back to N but see 0. It takes about 5 seconds to sort itself out and get back into a working D while I pump the brake pedal.

Meanwhile the cars behind at the now green lights are hooting me thinking I am not paying attention.

Although I have the latest software I will be first in the queue for a new Civic with a proper automatic gearbox. i-Shift is great at speeds over 40mph. It just cannot cope with stop/start heavy traffic.

It also for no real reason has good and bad days. It can be reasonably smooth one day and the next day on the same journey really jerky.

I also have a Dec 07 registered i-SHIFT (1.8 ES), but have NEVER seen '0' on the display. I've dribbled on many times before how much I like the i-SHIFT, and am still of the opinion that I never want another manual again.

I also assumed I'd got the latest version of the software, but now have doubts if yours has been upgraded. 1st service due in 900 miles, perhaps I'll check.

Isn't it just typical - happened again this morning. Changed from first to second then nothing - no throttle response at all for about 5 seconds, just slowing down and there was nothing I could do. Only ever happens when it's cold though.

Strange !

Mine happened twice in quick succession about 4 or 5 months ago and it's been fine since until this morning.
It's trying to convince me to go for the Hybrid with CVT next time

I have never seen a 0 on mine would say it has a fault on it somewhere and dealer should be able to sort! Having a 0 displayed must have been programmed into it (it's not going to make it up) so a call to honda should be able to tell the dealer whats going on
