Very true. Maximum i got for a while was 450 until i passed about 1500 miles then it got gradually better. I've done 18400 miles now so you could say the engines run in slightly

well i usually get between 400 and 500, but i do drive a bit quick. i got 68 mpg driving at 60mph for 80 miles but that gets boring after a while. i think 45 mpg is easily achievable once you get used to the engine which would give about 450 miles to a tank.

I filled up with just over 46 litres yesterday (over filled past the 1st click) and I had done 462 miles, which equated to about 45.5 mpg. That was a good mixture of driving though.

Almost 40mpg for the first 500 miles or 8.8mpl * 50litre tank = 440 miles per tank in my 2.2d type-s. Thats 60% town 30% A roads, 10% motorway. Mostly with A/C on and some heavy foot action, but mostly normal driving, not stuck in traffic too much, and mostly 2 or 4 eco's. I do about 10k a year on average. I hope this improves after a while. If i can get to 50mpg on average for the year i'll be happy!
The onboard computer reports 45.2 which is way out (even worse than my old renault). If you have a petrol card or keep track of your fuel costs each year and compare against the service book miles you'll get a true idea of what your mpg is. Unless you drive on the best roads with little traffic and drive like your mother teresa on her driving test, then you won't get anywhere near the book mpg. Every car is slightly different, every driver is different - and if you take the avg of a lot of cars over a few years and ignore the wild extreme's then you'd probably get some kind of average - but conditions, tryes, engine, fuel, a/c, mods, driving styles and the exaggerated onboard computer readings would probably mess up the results too much with such a small sample size it wouldn't be reliable and it's unlikely you'd get the same in your own car! |

Had my 2.2 SE for a couple of weeks and now have 1200 miles on it. Unusually for me I've been doing the same drive every day since getting the car due to a two week job at the same place. This consists mostly motorway for about 28 miles with a couple miles of B-roads at each end.
First 600 miles or so the mileage was about 40mpg, this has now risen to 45mpg driving around 75-80mph. Last night I decided to see what it would get driving like Miss Daisy. I averaged around 65mph on the motorway and didn't over-rev it on the b-roads and I got 55mpg. I also had trouble staying awake but it shows what you can get when you try. It should improve even more as the miles continue to increase so at the moment I'm pretty happy. |

I drive (now owing to fuel prices) at the speed limit changing up at 2500 rpm on my 61 mile rtn journey to work (mix 50 mph & 70 mph Dual Carriage way and motorway) I can get 62mpg. That is with the a/c on.
When I first got the car with 7000 miles on the clock, and using the power all the time, I got mid 40's mpg. |

It depends on your right foot, usually I manage 550-660 kms by fuel tank. This is in city driving.
If I'm driving outside site, but not in highways, I get 650-720/740 kms, this is quite good. Ofcourse the upper limits are only done cause I'm doing a soft driving. In highways, mhmmm ... what the hell, the righ foot stay quite heavy and, the car doesn't help |
