Transmission 2nd gear

I have the 2.2 CDTi and I found that the engine starts to jerk and shudder if you go below 10mph when slowing down in 2nd gear. Is this normal? Has anyone else come across this?

Without going out to check.. is this not because below 10 mph in 2nd you are at or below engine idle speed?

Diesels aggressively hold idle speed, so if you try to slow the engine below idle it will resist, resulting in shuddering.

I also thought it must be because 2nd is not a suitable gear at this speed.

As I don't have the diesel though, I thought I'd let someone who has go first.
