The interesting point is that it does not claim to meet the ACEA A1/B1 sequence that Honda specify as the preferred option for the 2.2 i-CTDI engine.

I'm trying to get an answer from Honda CS to confirm that Amsoil Series 2000 0W/30 is OK. This is similar. It claims A1/B1 and A3/B3 on the printed specification, but it turned out on the label to miss the A1/B1 spec.

BTW A1/B1 is the current economy spec
A3/B3 (& A3/**) are (I think) the heavier duty ratings, normally with higher viscosity ratings.

I'm assuming that both oils satisfy the A1/B1 or better. But I'm not using it until I've got confirmation. Does anyone know better?
If UK 2.2's have a diesel particulate filter (does anyone know for sure if they do or not??) then the correct oil should be to ACEA C3 spec. The oil is formulated to minimise fouling of the dpf.

Castrol Edge diesel 0-w30 meets that spec and Castrol Edge 0-w30 does'nt.

I strongly suggest changing your dealer. Read the manual. 10w 40 is acceptable as a second choice. But semi synthetic???

Then think what happens if they work on your engine with that sort of knowledge.

Sorry to say there is more than one Castol Edge. There is Castol Edge and castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 0W-30, Spec ACEA A3/B3/**/C3
This is designed to protect the paticulate filter. Put Castol into Google and check the web site. you can submit your car type and the recommended oil is shown.

My 2.2 had 10w 40 in it when I bought it, so I had the dealers change it to that 0w 30 oil that they recommend and my fuel consumption improved by 3 or 4 MPG!

Dunno, went to stealer yesterday for top up, and he tried to sell me 10-40 saying its the only oil they put in the CDTI. I couldn't be bothered arguing that the last refill pack I bought from them was Castrol Edge with an included refill pack, for £11.99. He's getting both in tomorrow and I'll be going for the 0-30 Edge.

Fish Bros of Swindon use Castrol Magnatec 10W40 A3 B3 in 1.8 and in the 2.2, they rekon you can use 0W30 but as its a thinner oil your oil consumption will increase.
I would check with your own dealer what they put in at service, because if they use a 10W40 you are just wasting your money topping up with expensive 0W30.
I am also not keen on mixing Full Synthetic with Part Synthetic, I was always told not to mix them

My 2.2 was dealer serviced 5 months ago(approx.3k miles since) also using shell Helix. The dipstick level has'nt dropped and the car returns 48-55mpg depending on the mix of journeys.I'm more than happy with that

well since having the oil change my car is returning less mpg, i get around 43/45mpg. Before i was getting 48ish. Would this have anything to do with the shell helix ultra 5W-40 that my stealer used?

If the car checks out the same as before the service, including tyre pressures and the driving cycle is the same, you'd need to know what was in the engine before its service.

Presumably an 0w-30 engine oil would offer less engine 'resistance'-potentially a little more power/economy than would a 5w-40 oil.As the weather gets a little colder the car will take longer to warm up to its efficient operating temperature, which will have some effect on fuel economy.I reckon mine's using a tiny bit more fuel recently-say 1-2 less miles per gallon.

I cannot find Castrol Edge 0-30 w "diesel" variant, not even on the castrol website, so I bought the standard 0-3-w edge
