Done. Hartside - just above the percentages column, is there not an "edit poll" thingy? I've checked the permissions, but there's nothing in there to specify this, so it may be an admin only thing.

Can we assume so far that only 8 people have bothered to check/top up their oil, or is it still a little too soon to tell.

Hello,

No need to top up mine until now.

Done 1900 kms and the level is about 85% full. Just checked it today in the morning.

Thanks Pottsy!

Must just be an Admin thing I think as there isn't an edit button above the "edit poll" bit

Thumbs up

Checked oil other week for first time, was fine when collected at 2500 miles and now 3200 and needed just under a litre!!!!

Castrol SLX Longtec

Spoken to Honda and they have advised on a related warranty claim the first thing they will do is take an oil sample - if this is not the above oil then say bye bye to making a claim!

Just had rear shocks replaced over lunch today - no more rattle & hum!!!

Agreed HondaHeaven as I mentioned in a seperate post, and people need to be especially aware of this. SLX Longtec has now been replaced by Castrol Edge

Following advice on this site I checked my oil after the first 1000 miles and found it near the 'min' mark, so topped up with the Castrol Edge stuff. Done another 1000 miles since and the level apears constant.

Whatever you do DO NOT use anything thicker than a 15W/40 oil in any 2006 Civic as it completely screws up the oil level sensor readings!!
Also on the oil consumption front, the official line from Honda is anything upto 600 miles to a litre of oil is acceptable! But is very dependant on driving style and can be higher than expected during the first couple of thousand miles as the engine beds in.

Here in Italy normally at the first service (20.000km) the oil is replaced by Honda dealer with Bardhal / Castrol 5w40 (in my case Bardhal).

Longtec same as Edge

Spoke to Jeff Briggs Tech Dept at Castrol today about oil for 1.8 and he mentioned that oil sold to dealers comes under the longtec name and for retail this is badged as Edge. Same oil.

Got my Civic back today after 4 days of surgery, called at Halfords and got some Castrol Edge 0-30W for my 2.2 EX diesel, I presume that will raise the level enough to get my 7 month old civic through to it's 12 month service, hope so at 14.99 for a small bottle!

Hartside, I hope your poll is not suggesting to me that there is a "diesel" version of the same stuff I just bought??? There is only one type of Castrol Edge 0-30W isn't there????!!!!

Yes. Edge is for both diesel and petrol.

The interesting point is that it does not claim to meet the ACEA A1/B1 sequence that Honda specify as the preferred option for the 2.2 i-CTDI engine.

I'm trying to get an answer from Honda CS to confirm that Amsoil Series 2000 0W/30 is OK. This is similar. It claims A1/B1 and A3/B3 on the printed specification, but it turned out on the label to miss the A1/B1 spec.

BTW A1/B1 is the current economy spec
A3/B3 (& A3/**) are (I think) the heavier duty ratings, normally with higher viscosity ratings.

I'm assuming that both oils satisfy the A1/B1 or better. But I'm not using it until I've got confirmation. Does anyone know better?

I'm afraid so Fed. I spoke with a mechanic at the delearship though and he says the diesel Accords/Civic and CRV's are all filled with Castrol Edge (non diesel) come service time, so it's safe to use the oil you have just bought. I top mine up with the non diesel stuff as well.

A1/B1 is an older spec
A3/B3 is the newer version of A1/B1 so you can use it!

but do not use A5/B5 this is not similar to A3/B3 (A1/B1)!!
