Fuel pipe magnets and graphite oil?

hi, i was speaking to a guy at work today, he mentioned u can buy magnets the tie wrap around your fuel pipe which excites the fuel molocules to increase the efficiency, does this work? also he mentioned when doing an oil change to clean the engine out once you have drained it, then when you fill back up leave a 1/4 pint out or something along those lines and add the remaining bit with graphite oil. he said it neutralises the chemicals in the oil which reduces friction and increases efficiency, has any ever heard of or tried this? was thinking about trying them.

i always believe that if something is going to work (properley) then everyone would be doing it (including manufacturers and dealers).....

and on that bomshell i doubt these "ideas" would make a noticeable difference fella

If it was as easy to get extra efficiency by simply putting a couple of magnets around the fuel line don't you think the manufacturers would be doing it? This idea has been around for years.

PS: I've just found this website that makes interesting reading:

Slick 50 and other ail additives

Been doing repairs and maintenance to my cars/bikes for 40 years or so-except when they still have a warranty which is when they're dealer serviced.

Have never done either of your collegues's suggestions and believe me would never either.

I believe they cost around £7. That will be £6.99p too much then.
They were tested not that long ago on a T.V. prog' about fuel saving .
The result ----------- Rubbish.

The way the magnets work is they extract money from your wallet and provide no performance upgrade in return.

Start with:

Keep it below 3000 rpm.

Don´t have more stuff in the car than needed.

Make sure you have correct tyre pressures.

adjust your driving technique

less throttle
use the hills to maintain your speed
brake less and earlier
switch your engine when idling for long periods
don't get enticed into traffic light grand prix
use higher gears, earlier
knows whats happening well ahead of you and anticipate so you can control your throttle and speed

e.t.c

About 10-12 years ago my next door neighbour sold these magnets that tie wrapped onto fuel lines and eventually talked me into buying one for my car. We checked out mpg carefully over a period of 3-4 weeks without the magnet, then checked it out with the magnet attatched, the results showed a small increase in mpg, approx 2 miles per gallon. At the time the magnet cost about £45, fuel saving was less than £1 per week, hardly worth the bother.

The magnets were tested on Mythbusters on the discovery. The verdict was that they do nothing. Acetone in the fuel was also busted
