Superchips at last!!!

Superchips are now listing the Civic

Having been involved with chipping for many years, there are 2 premium companies out there - Superchips and Revo. So I'd be very happy to take it to Superchips.

They offer

320 ftlb - a nice figure.

Having been involved in a world of tuning Golf diesels, this is a totally normal kind of torque and there have never been any gearbox problems. The issue will be, if there is an issue, the clutch. Just occasionally in VW world people would get clutch slip on the most extreme conversions.

I hereby volunteer myself to be the guinea pig!

(Already phoned local installer but it will have to wait until Monday).

I'm genuinely not worried about the box. They are comfortably over engineered to give a good life, so if anything the life might be reduced.

The clutch though has a finite limit and I really hope I don't reach it.

There's only one way to find out (can't wait!)

The petrol engines cannot be chipped (well, some companies offer them but the make no noticable difference).

The chip "plays" with the turbo settings on the diesel.

What is the general increase in insurance costs? and does it knock out all warranty or just limited to engine?

What does the SUPERCHIPS warranty offer?

In the extremely unlikely event of a Superchip being responsible for causing damage to your vehicle, Superchips will, under the terms and conditions of our warranty, repair your vehicle.

We arrange for an independent assessor to evaluate the problem and to arrange for the repair of your vehicle quickly and professionally.

The warranty is not intended to replace the existing warranty provided by the manufacturer, but will supplement it to cover the parts deemed to be excluded by the manufacturer. Full terms and conditions are available upon request.

Free your engine from restrictive limits and find out what Superchips can do for you and your car....
Insurance depends on who your insurer is. Most companies deal with a % power increase, with the max allowable being 25% (then you're into specialist insurance territory, such as Adrian Flux). Typically though it's about £60 to £80.

Yep - it should be very similar to the chipped Mk4 and Mk5 diesel Golfs - around 7.5 secs or a bit less.

If anyone has the individual gear ratios and final drive ratio of the Civic diesel I can do a full analysis and prediction...

Got it booked in for Thursday morning. A slightly more involved job that the VW (which was done via the diagnostic port by the ashtray) - the ecu box has to be split open to get to the programming port so it'll take a few hours.

Will report back Thurs pm.

Pottsy, any news on that upgrade? I'm 50/50 on whether to do it.

All done and

This really is a good conversion. Not peaky like the 1.9 Golf was (which was amusing, but odd) but it's the same old lovely engine at all times except:

a) when on the boost at half throttle you get more

b) at full throttle the engine growls more and you accelerate kind of 15% or 20% more.

Really nice on the motorway, and the extra power at the top end makes you want to drive the car that much harder.

Very nice. Not cheap, but very nice.

How has the handling been affected - it gets a bit twitchy at high speeds as it is.

Sports suspension required??

Sounds great Potts, how much was it again? how much has your insurance gone up, or haven't you told them yet?

No need for any other mods - of course when not at high power settings the car is exactly as before. Still wriggles a bit on full power in low gears, but nothing dramatic.

It was £511, plus £76 on the insurance.
