Coolant
Had my Type R for just over a month now.
The coolant has always sat just above the MIN level so I thought today I would take a trip to my nearest Honda Dealer to get a top up bottle as I would rather it at the MAX level. I asked for the Honda All Season Antifreeze/Type 2 Coolant ( as in Handbook ). When I got home I looked at the bottle and it said Pro Honda HP Coolant. I phoned them up to query this and they said it was the only antifreeze they use in all their cars and it will be fine. Did a search on the internet and Pro Honda Coolant is only for sale in Motor bike stores Can anyone shed some light on this? The Coolant they gave me is 50/50 premixed and is Silicate free. |

Hi Miles, the Honda Type 2 coolant is only available in 5l bottles and the p/n is 08CLA-G01-8LO. As far as I'm aware the 1l bottles are only for older vehicles.

Worst thing is my nearest dealer is 30 miles away, so another 60 mile trip to sort it out |

Talking of coolant, has anyones car ever warmed above just below midway??? I.e. reached half way??? Mine always sits well below, and never seems truly warm, even on long motorway journeys???

This may sound a really dumb question and its prolly in the owners manual but where do you look to check the level of coolent? all the others cars ive had have had a big expansion tank thats easily visable.

Yours is:
Open bonnet from in front of the car put your right hand forward to the 'winged-cap', it is almost directly behind this in the engine bay (it is a white/clear plastic 'tube' just below the radiator top). If in doubt check your manual IIRC page 308 or 352 or there abouts the 300 range. Tom |
