Does anyone know the level your oil should be at when cold???

Hi,

Title says it all really, anyone know what level your oil is at when it's cold?? As I don't want to run my car to warm it up, just to test the oil, mines just above half way at cold.

ATB,
Tom

The question was "when cold" - the dipstick is for measuring when hot.

I wonder how much the oil level changes between hot and cold ?

I must admit I check mine in the garage after it's been stood all night. So far I've not lost a drop and it's still at max.

Exactly, thats why I thought I'd ask, that way IF you know it's full then you check it when cold you'll have an idea of the level it is actually at...... if you follow my heavily weaved path

There should be minimal difference in level between hot and cold as you should allow 5 - 10 mins for the oil to settle after switching the engine off anyway.

Cool, I'm gonna take a trundle out then check my oil..... so I'll know later what the level should be at.
