Diesel Turbo tuning

OK so I've had the Type S for a month now and it's time to explore some engine tuning....Unlike all the other motors I've owned: mostly VAG group Cupra R's/S3 etc I won't get bored because when I do, the wife gets it

First and foremost will be a remap.
Celtic are contenders but I'm also exploring a Superchips reseller in Leeds who also advertise as on the rollers live mapping with their own software.
When I've asked around, I'll put up some details.
The plan is to create an image of being a green lefty socially responsible chap whilst having in reality control under my right foot 'the fires of hell
'
What is important with this project it's got to be nice and fast without the associated droning exhausts, growling induction and chattering gassy f@rts from a vent to atmo dump valve.

I specifically bought a non fog light equipped S so at a later date I could use the existing trim (which really lends itself to a bit of black mesh) to increasing brake cooling or if a FMIC won't fit, increased air flow through an uprated Side Mount in stock position.

For some reason I've lost a Nomad boost gauge that was rolling around in my garage

I have a couple of questions to kick off.

Anyone on civinfo measured the boost psi of a stock 2.2 to give me an idea?
And anyone measured the boost of a celtic (190 map) 2.2

I was lucky enough to jump on the Pipercross group buy, so when that arrives I'll be exploring the restrictions on the intake side and excessive moulding in the stock box/air supply

As this is my first diesel ( I'm a child of the Gordan Brown Era), I must confess I know nothing about tuning diesels.
That said the mid range thump on stock tune is great and promises great things.

Beyond chipping I'm not too well educated either. I've got a westfield in the garage which I'm trying to get to grips with but that's petrol and I'm not fully sure how much of the same theory applies. I guess the old 'easier intake and exhaust' still applies but not uprated ignition systems etc. I've a feeling I'll be chipping mine in the not too distant future and seeing where it takes me.

I dont want to go too extreme with mine cause it's a 5 door and I want to keep hold of the economy (If I want to drive like a nutcase I swap cars) but a healthy bit of extra kick would be nice

I'm based in Harrogate so I'd be interested in your findings with this company in leeds too.

Ah the humour of it all

Looks like I'm gonna be the first to clock some boost readings on a 2.2 then

Getting bored of 140bhp now! Feeling a re-map... but I'm concerned about the life of the clutch (Which already slips sometimes!)...

I had the car (standard) on a rolling road earlier in the year:
Rolling Road Results
The torque figures are higher than Honda state, but the BHP is nearly the same

Not sure about a standard car, but a remapped car get about 1.5 bar (20 psi) of boost.

I'm sitting tight with mine as is.Significantly more torque is normally the name of the game with diesel re-mapping/tuning boxes.the latter pushed my Alfa's clutch toward an early grave. It seems, from info on the forum,Civic clutches are a little bit pricey.......

2 years(only 24 months) on l'll probably be looking at the Honda uprated versions.I'll be enjoying mine till then

New to diesel

Shows what I know...20psi

I had an S3 that ran 15psi......and that needed a Forge uprated Turbo intake pipe as the oem would collapse under full load!

Time for me to go away and read up on diesel engines

Read on another site(only read mind you) 'racing' clutches are stop/go and pretty heavy-in other words not practical.some Alfa owners have bought heavy duty clutches off e bay sites-do'nt know if they were up to the job.

Its the fitting cost on modern cars thats the killer(somebody tell me they're as straightforward as a Mk1 Escort;done a few of those, even a Granada using a fabricated gearbox cradle on a trolly jack)If Haynes or somebody brings out a manual to do the clutch change, might be more inclined further down the line to have a dabble with a remap
