Theoretical performance figures

A while ago I used a performance analysis program to look at the 1.8 and 2.2 cars, and was asked to include the 1.4.

So here they are (I started from scratch, using some new, more accurate data). The 2.2 power curves have come from the superchips dyno, where "2.2 GRAPH" is standard and "2.2 GRAPH CHIP" is chipped. The software is much better at producing the power curve for petrol engines, so the results should be fairly accurate.

As before though, it's all theory!

No, I haven't had mine on the dyno yet, I just used the figures from the Superchips before/after dyno chart.

I'll try and get it done soon.

P.

PS Notice that below 50 in fifth all the petrol cars are pulling more G's - the diesel does well but it is over a reduced rev range.

It's not fair to compare accelerations in same gear between turbodiesel/petrol car.
With turbodiesel you have max torque at 2000rpm, while with petrol at 4000+rpm. Also, petrol does have noticable peak of power at some 6000rpm, whilst diesel has almost full power also at close to 2000rpm.
What I mean... in petrol to accelerate properly you need to downshift, while in diesel torque does it's job. It's just two completelly different ways of driving a car

Nick, agreed, but the graph is titled "flexibility" so is just showing what happens if you lazily press the throttle without bothering to change down. At the top end of the graph where both engines are revving away, the acceleration is similar.

Thanks to Thomas's dyno chart here:
Anyone dynoed their Civic 1.8?

I have re-done the calculations using the measured power output for the 1.8. I've also added flat-out acceleration graphs in addition to the engine flexibility graph.

I haven't been on a RR yet - need to find one nearby! The figures come from Superchips own rolling road, so not pie in the sky but possibly pie at arms length.
