Tuning Box for the 2.2 CDTi
Hi Guys and Gals
After wathching the programme on ITV last night about rising fuel costs and after seeing the results from Quentins tuning box and seeing the MPG's increase. I thought i might purchase one. but would like to know if anybody has had one fitted on there 2.2 civic. and to what the type of increase in Mpg's people are seeing not to fussed about the power increase as I mainly drive like a bit of a grandad upshifting at 2000 rpm and only really pushing it up to 80/85 on the motorway where most of my driving is done. If anybodys has had one fitted would be good to here your views and where the best place to buy one from is along with what the best price is i should expect to pay for one. Thought i would get some of you loyal civic owners opinions on the tuning box before i dive in with both feet. any info would be appreciated. Cheers Loz |

Well I don't have a box but chip tuned it.
Must say it is drives better and saves fuel a bit, but not that much. But that is because it is also faster now, and I put the pedal to the metal :P |

I tried this and was astonished to find that instead of my usual 42ish at around 80 I was getting 56mpg - a saving of 33%. Yes, I know that wasn't what I bought my Civic for - but when I bought it diesel wasn't about £1.31 a litre!!!!!! Also - don't forget if you get the box - you'll have to let your insurers know (and since it increases power you can bet they will load you for it!!!) Also, it may affect your warranty - if anything goes wrong with the engine you can bet Honda will blame the box! (sorry to be a drag but I go with Top Gear's assessment on sunday last! - it isn't how powerful or not your car is - it's how you drive it!) Cheers Dylan |

Hi Wazhalo 31
Have a look a my thread under Engines and Transmission, Javorb's Digital Tuning Box. As my engine is still loosing up a I don't think i'm getting the best mpg, having said that, it has improved since I put thre box on. Torque is much stronger and I am able to stay in a higher gear for longer. I'm currently getting 42-43mpg arround town and 50+ on a run. |

I agree with Dylan, why spend money on something like that when you can just change your driving style and get better results?
Obviously if you are getting the box or chip for better throttle response and a quicker car then that's different. |
