Gears popping out 08 Type R

Just noticed that when im driving and in any gear weather 1st or 6th i can pull the gear out to neutral without the clutch being in, i noticed it the other day when it kinda fell out.

Is there something up with my car gearbox, common fault etc??? as normally it wouldnt pop out unless the clutch was in, thats in the other cars i driven.

If its wrong i will add that to my list the cars going in to get repaired on the 14th. The alarm dosnt work, rear brake pads are rubbing against the disc, gear knob is loose and swivels about, and theres a missing clip form the center console.

You can always pull the gear lever out of gear without pressing the clutch (on any car), and it is easier and nicer on the car if you just tickle the throttle to unload the transmission while you do so. It's how you drive a car if the clutch has failed.

Of course it should not pop out of gear on its own (mine can do this in first if you come on and off the throttle) and it's most likely that the linkage will need adjusting if this happens.

The fact that the gear knob is loose suggests that the whole linkage may need a look at. If it does pop out on its own - let the dealer know!

Thanks

It has popped out on its own a few times across the gear range but i noticed it would slide out when in gear without the clutch down, didnt realise you could do that as i my old civic im sure the clutch has to be down before it comes out or it makes a grinding sound. I will se what happens tomorow.

As Pottsy says you can disengage gears on all cars if you try hard enough. They won't grind coming out of mesh. If it is popping out on it's own then it is time for a visit to the dealers as there is something wrong.

For you guys with the 6 speed: Do you have the same notchy, pops out of gear, or just grinds when you try to put it into 3rd gear?

I've not had a problem with any of my gears, they all give a slick gearchange.

Quite a few people have had issues with not being able to get third gear easily.

My 3rd gear would grind quite badly when trying to engage it. You could feel when it wasn't going to go in, so you could de-clutch and re-engage with less of a crunch. It never popped out in the 3 months I waited for it to be fixed. I've had no problems in six months after the 3rd gear syncro was replaced .

Hi All,

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I was just about to start a new one about the 3rd gear problem. I have had my typr r only a short while now but I am having trouble shifting into 3rd on regular occasions. Like mentioned when I go to select 3rd it feels as if something is holding it from going in and I have to double clutch or push hard to get it in 3rd. Anyone having this problem and have a solution?

I also have another small issue that my gearbox is weering so to speak, more noticeable in 4th, 5th & 6th but basically sounds like a supercharger would do under load. I had been getting louder and lounder over the past week to the point all I can here now is this even with the radio turned up. Can any one help out? Do I need to take it back to Honda

Thanks

The third gear issue has affected a lot of Type R's Mark.

There is a huge thread here on the subject.
