£250 Engine Remap

hi,
ive just come accross this engine tuning company on ebay, who are offering to remap the 2.2 civic for £250, do you guys think its worth it, the figures quoted are a bit lower than some people have got throught celtic tuning, but for £250 you cant complain.

really considering this, but dont know weather celtic is worth the extra £125, but with celtic you get more bhp and torque.

If it was me I would go with Celtic as there are members on here who have used them and are happy with the results. Who are the other company ? Do you know anything about them ?

Hey,

I'm of the same thinking as you matey.

I tell you what I am yet to see and that is rolling road figures of Celtic tuned Diesel Civics, I'm sure I haven't missed them but may have.
So far all I have seen it claimed figures and not actual, paper printed ones for a couple of cars rather than one good running example.
Can someone put this right?

Ian

Go with recommendation, that's why I went to Celtic.

Good people very friendly and did what it said on the tin!

No not RR'd but happy with what I got and more importantly how it goes.

That's a difficult one!

Don't know what 190 or even 170 would feel like to be honest.

It just pulls and pulls quite subtle really used to have a fabia vrs chipped to about 170 and that was manic all power then nothing, at first I thought that was quicker but it's not.

The 2.2 engine is just very smooth and it feels to hold the power higher up the rev range, feels a bit more like a petrol.

But without getting it on RR no idea what it is putting out, I chose Celtic because of the reviews on here.

Hope this helps.

I think Celtic would be the better bet here.
a) it has good reviews for this reputable forum
b) I am a bit of a sceptic on their eBay advert. Their quoted RRP figures are higher than Celtic Tuning, if its a really good remap they wouldn't hesitate to charge what it's worth. IMO.

Could I enquire as to your MPG at all???

Also, does the turbo kick any sooner or later than when standard?

MPG about 50, getting about 550 miles per tank. Done 9K.

I'd say it comes in about the same but it doesn't run out of steam like it did before though.

I don't feel the need for frantic gear changes to keep it in the power band.

Hi Charlo,

Charlo, you're getting better MPG than me mate, but I've done almost 60k miles. Having said that, I just completed my first full tank after having my cracked exhaust manifold replaced. I had my first 500 mile tank! God knows how long the manifold had been cracked.... In gear accelleration is great and the engine is nice and quiet too.

Initially, the car came back from a service sounding extra "diesely" it was chugging a bit. Then I noticed that performance was down and that there was a strange rattle at 3000rpm that I couldn't locate, over time this got worse, much worse and started to sound like a tractor (to my ears that had tuned out to all of the car's "normal" engine noises). At this point, economy was at an all time low as was performance... I'd put my foot hard down and the car would barely respond.

It took some persiverance with the dealer, I thought it might be a cracked injector seal, but we checked and there was no carbon around the injectors. So the mechanic put the car up on the ramp, took the undertray off and had a good look. After about 15 minutes of head scratching, he spotted carbon build up on the exhaust manifold that was indicative of a crack.

One week later, the dealer replaced the manifold (BIG job) and the rest, as they say is history.

Strangely, the exhaust manifold was a big problem on the Accord with the same(ish) engine. This was the first Civic that the dealer had done though.
