I would have gone for the 5 door EX over the 3 door.........This had been my intention when I entered the showroom but was drawn towards the Type R.
The EX is much more goodie loaded with the built in Sat Nav and Bluetooth and the HID's. |

I think the biggest different is the number of the doors..
I can compare the 1.8 Sport 5D with 1.8 Type-s (in my country) The other differences is heated seats vs dual zone climate , the type has not got the rear magic seats . I selected the 5D because it has got the heated seats option (it's very impotant for me ). |

Originally I was loking at the EX. But ended up with the ES. Was seduced by the glass roof - feels very roomy! Didnt think the additional cost was warrented in my case and my Tom Tom offered more (speed camera alerts
Some also say that the 16in wheels on the ES give a smoother ride. Thanks and good luck with your choice! Simon |

Got back seats ? ... then get back doors ! ...
I have always hated getting out of the driver's seat to let people in or out of the back seats ... And - yes - the EX has lots of 'extras' included in the price ... |

We all choose our models and colours for personal reasons, and once we're happy then life is good!
For me the model choice was based on the exterior appearance. To my taste the subtle differences in the 3-door model make a big difference. I love the shape of the windows on the 3-door - the longer driver's window and the upward curving oval at the back. And I like the longer driver's door too. When the 5-door came out I thought it looked good but I wasn't tempted to buy one. Then when I saw the 3-door I was sold on it straight away. To me it looks quite different, much sleeker. And I went for black mainly 'cos it's a colour I hadn't chosen before, and also 'cos it looked best with the grey trim (though silver and grey aren't bad either - but my last Civic Coupe was silver). But that's just me... |

I might be off the mark here but isnt the Type S vs EX a bit of a strange comparison? I haven't checked the prices but presumably the Type S is quite a bit cheaper? Type S GT vs EX perhaps might be more appropriate?
If it was just standard Type S vs EX I'd go EX - I mean to say I went EX cause that's what I've got |

The ES really works for me, I couldn't justify the cost for the small amount of extras you get on the EX and the glass roof on the ES makes the cabin very airy as Simon says. I have to admit theres something about the Type S that makes it a little more slick to look at but this is far outweighed by the practicality of having 5 doors in my opinion. I like being able to put my mountain bike it the back, no messing around having to fold the back seats down. Having said that its amazing how many passengers try to get in at the front not realising it even has any rear doors. Its all down to personal opinion and what suits your lifestyle but thats my take on it. Good luck!! |

It really depends on your needs. i went for the 5 door just because I like to have easy access to the back without moving seats.
It boils down to what you want or need or even what shape you like |

I like my Type-S. Over the 5-door:
- It's a better drive when pushed on the twisties, it feels more planted on the road and the steering is a touch heavier. - The sport(-ish) seats I found more comfortable - The 3 door gives you a bit better visibility over the driver's shoulder Marginal really! Courant |

I never realised the Type-S had different seats to the 5-door, I thought the Type-R was the only one with the different seats?
For me I love the gadgets of the EX and wouldn't be without them, but I must say I prefer the look of the Type-S. The 3-door models definitly have a sleeker look to them. With the few additions to my EX I think I've made up for that and now have the best of both worlds |

As Courant and Pottsy say, there are differences in the handling. My Type S really,is is a world away to my previous ES.That was a perfectly good family hatchback;the The Type S has always taken everything I've thrown at it with room to spare. My ES would be floundering a little in the same scenario's

Get the type S GT. Passengers always saying they are suprised how easy it is to get in and out of the back compared to any other 3 door they have been in.
