Air Con Important question

As I understand it because the climate control / air con in my type-r uses a percentage of power from the flywheel when on it reduces MPG.

Ok, what I want to know is if it makes a difference what fan speed it's on at? Will it be more economical to have it on fan speed 1 rather than fan speed 4 for instance or once it's on it's on?

also if I have it on LO, is this going to mean less MPG than 19* for instance?

thanks

The lower the temperatur you set, the lower the MPG because the aircon needs to do more work.
The fanspeed is not related to this, but since it's an electrical thing it needs some power. The faster it's set the more power it uses, but I don't think you'll notice a change in MPG for just for the fan, it's doesn't use that much power.

Think of your aircon/climate like your fridge indoors.

If you have the fridge set at a really low temp and its 90 degrees outside, then the compressor will have to work much harder to keep it cool, open the door (similar to turning the speed up, the fatser its running, the quicker it needs to heat/cool the air)and it will have to work harder still, using more electricity.

If the fridge is set on mid level and its a reasonable temp surrounding it then the compressor wont have to work anywhere near as hard, therefore using less go juice.

I don't know whether it's just me, but when travelling at a steady speed say on a motorway on a hot day, I'm sure I can feel the aircon cutting in and slightly sapping the engine power ?

It feels like I've just been hit by a frontal gust of wind. Nothing too severe but noticeable if your paying attention

The comfortable region for a human is between 22 to 26 degrees celcius. Therefeore lowering the temperature below that point will make you feel freezed after a long journey and also consumes more power from the engine as ac is more angaged to achieve the set temperature. In my country that the tmeperature in the summer rises up to 40 and mayby more i set the temperature to 26 and in auto mode always. This does the thing and i am quite happy with it. With the ac on and not many highway trips since is a small country I can get around 7.2 l/100 km average. When driving carefully the ac does not make significant difference in MPG in my opinion. When you push hard instead or not driving carefully it does.

Never noticed it in the diesel cars I've had(2 most recent Honda's),but my partner reckons she could tell with her ford petrol.I think petrol's are a little more sensative then diesel's to this

Jep seems to be normal. You have to lock out the fresh outside air. (there is a button to do this)
