My CV Joints are Made out of Cheese!!

Hi everyone

I have been having a few issues with my Civic.

There are problems with the suspention as well, but i might start another topic in the suspention section.

The problem for this section is my CV joints.

It ate its first set at about 18k, and has now eaten the second set at 24k.

Its booked in for its second service in a week or so, and i have informed them that it requirers another set and its all getting done under warrenty, but what about when the warrenty runs out?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Lewis

How are they failing? With a groan, or the machine gun bang bang bang?

Yeah sorry i should have been more specific.

The outer CVs are failing with the unmistakable click click click on full lock. These current ones have got so bad, both are doing it (last time only the nearside failed) and they even do it slightly when at speed!

I haven't heard of anyone - apart from a possible one here. With your brakes lasting just 6k, I have to ask, are you more Lewis H than Lewis T? How often do you see the VSA light flash, for example?

Or I wonder if there is something out of adjustment in the drive shafts, that is putting a load on the CV joints, causing them to fail... Has your dealer searched the TSBs?

Well i do like to drive in a 'rapid' fassion when the oportunity presents itself, however most of the time i am sat in traffic on the way into work (10m in 30 mins) or cruising on a motorway going to site and back.

The first set of pads were really really bad, the second set lasted more like 12k, and performed a lot better. the current set are at 7k and doing ok (ish).

My first set of tyres lasted 17k is (can't remeber exactly) which i thought was fair for a heavy car like this. (its the 1.8 vtec).

As for the VSA, i have that perminatly turned off. I have a pathological hatred for traction control and stability systems.

As for things out of alignment - possibly, it has eaten two sets of front shock absorbers (although there are LOTS of speedbumps were i live)

If you have it on, how often and when does it interfere?
