although there is some debate about whether or not the top speed is also limited by an artificially low rev limit coming in for 6th gear only

but yes, definately a rev limiter in place on all gears to stop you bouncing pistols off valves
It's a fairly 'hard' limiter too - you'll definately know if you hit it

Why would they limit top speed?

It may be true, but it just doesn't make any sense at all. I can (sort of) understand limiting high performance sports cars, the Germans love limiting, but not the Civic! We all know the 2.2 is capable of so much more and in likelihood the 1.8 but it's not needed in a family car.

So there is a rev limiter, thanks for clearing that up. I was wrong, that happened once before, a long time ago.

A friend with Accord Type S has he has a 'speed limiter'. It's at 225km/h, and as he says he can get quite fast to that speed, and it wont go a km/h faster than that - also at that point he can reduce a bit of throttle too to keep the speed - so on his car there IS speed limiter.
Dunno for Civic tho...

No, but in manual you do, and if you ignore them, it changes up anyway - which is really neat if you're concentrating hard on something going on outside. So I don't suppose we i-shifters will ever get to see the rev limiter cut in?
