Faulty Rev Indicator

Hi,
Just took delivery of my 1.8ES Civic on Two days ago. Can't fault it at all so far. Better in so many ways than I had imagined.
The only fault that I have managed to find is a minor one but still something I'd like to have fixed. The ECO indicator is lit up and the green dots under it are working as they should. However the REV indicator is lit up but in the two days that I've had the car and the 400km that I've driven it I haven't seen a single green dot under REV.
I brought it in to another dealer today to have a look at it and he couldn't tell me off hand what the problem was. I know you can turn off the REV indicator in the Setup of the car but when you do the REV and the white bar underneath it also disappear.
Like I said....it's not a huge problem but I'd like to have it fixed if I could. Just wondering if anyone else out there had a similar problem....or are you all seing dots before your eyes?

I bet it IS working.

It doesn't kick in until quite late in the rev range. As you hit around 6500rpm in the vtec.

Give it some welly in first, and see what happens

Based on what you told me your previous car was.. I'm almost certain yours is fine. It is okay to rev that high in the VTEC, honest!

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Thing is the guy in the garage took it for a spin and reved it more than I would have liked to and he couldn't get a single light to appear. I should really check the obvious first though and see if maybe there's a fuse blown ...or missing altogether. But I would have thought one fuse would have done both the ECO and REV indicators....and ECO is working fine.

If you do the revving in first or second, you'll see the lights come on (2, initially) well before you hit the limiter. Bear in mind that the engine sounds very raucous and sporty so it sounds like you are thrashing it, but it's fine.

Actually, I would prefer it if the lights came on a little earlier, so you could more easily see your progression through the rev range without looking down.

I guess it's a good tool for getting the full performance out of it tho as it is

SO what's the theory?....drive it like I stole it and the dots will appear? If that's what it takes I may leave it for a couple of hundred more KMs and then give it a go. Thing is, living in Dublin, you never really get to drive a car over 40km....cos that's the speed the rest of the cars are going on every road in the city. Congestion how are ye?!?!

Do it in first, chap.

Ignore the rubbish about "breaking in" the engine.

just try to accelerate in 1st gear until you see the lights done it a couple of times, also today trying to beat someone on the traffic light. just bear in mind it'll destroy your average fuel consumption..

Of course... the shift lights could be turned off??

Open your manual and go into the section on your trip computer. In there it will tell you how to get into the setup menu. (ignition on, press and hold the select button I think?)

Both the rev lights (which are orange, not green) and the eco lights can be disabled in this menu.

You can also enable written warnings on the screen (If when bright orange "low fuel" pump appears it actually says "Low Fuel" beneath it, stall the car and "Check System" appears under the battery symbol etc etc).
In here you can also activate and deactivate things like the speed warnings (although why you would want to )

Try this first and my money is on them being "off"

CivPilot, I thought it might have been that I had the REV disabled in the setup. So I went in anmd turned it OFF to see what6 would happen. When you do Both the word REV and the line underneath disappear aswell so that's not it. I'm just missing the dots.

You do have to give it some welly. I think it's a little too much tomake the lights useful. Maybe they can fix that in firmware or something.

Lets not forget though, the rev lights are to indicate you are rapidly approaching the redline and need to change up..... so they only need to come on for the last 900/1000rpm or so.
I've seen mine loads and to be honest only a couple of occations have I lit them all. As the last light comes on the car hits the limiter.
I have also found in my "research" that the car performs just as quickly if you change before the lights are required, in fact I beleive the come on after you have already passed optimum revs/maximum power.

I think moving thier "light up point" further down the rev range would largely negate their function. Nice gimic to see them lit, but hardly need to be there if they come on a couple of thousand RPM before the required shift point.

Just my opinion.

ps. think you need to speak to your local service department and get the car looked at. You might be right and they really dont work.

I reckon if they dropped off maybe 1000rpm earlier, and the red lights were reserved for only the about to hit the limiter point, it would be better.

All my lights are orange (and I have seen them all )? There are no red ones on my car?

Got a picture?

I thought the last two were red, but maybe that was because I was concentrating on keeping the car on the road at the time

The fact that people have to take it to the dealer to see if they work proves they come on way too late!
