Noise when revving car at a stand still
Hi,
I've got a question, earlier this day when i revved the car a bit when standing still i heared this weird blowing noise combined with a metally rattle sound coming from the engine bay, sounds a bit like a pump or something. However when you rev by pressing the pedal slighlty that noise isnt there, its only when you give a good short push on the gas pedal. Anybody who might know what this is? A bit worried since the car has to do quite some miles in the next two days. grtz edit: its the 1.8 petrol Last edited by Woette; 30th August 2008 at 11:12. |

I have that sound too (i think). I believe it has sometimg to do with the AC. Turn your AC off and check if you still hear the sound. I will have the dealer check mine at the first service in about a month.

Update on my "sound" - it was leaking fluid from the AC. When the dealer installed the engine heater (or what's it called in english...
) a small leak of some kind had developed with the AC. The dealer stopped the leak, and refilled the AC. Sound is now gone.

I get one that's the opposite. The car makes a wierd rattling sound deep in the dash/engine area, then when you rev the engine it goes.
If you drop the revs back to tickover, it starts up again! |

Wheelchair,
Take a look at my comments on the following thread re. a vibration: Dash rattle under acceleration. I heard it at idle too. Turned out brake lines were fouling against each other. They still do, though thanks to judicious use of some self-adhesive foam pads, I don't have the sound anymore |
